Re: new power supply roundup review at anandtech...

Artic cooling Fusion looks good. The AC PSU was only tested at 240v, this is why it looks so much better than everything else. Performance wise, the BFG looked the best. Now if only they put a good fan controller in it. Though if your willing to void your PSU's warrenty and do a fan swap, this is l...

If your load is near 300w, the 550 version will likely be quieter for you anyhow. The more overhead you have without running outside the 20-100% 80+ range, the quieter it will run. Having your load at 50% of the max capable on your PSU is almost ideal. I dont really see this as a big deal. I would w...

Sorry, but your comment is not self-explanatory. Re-read that article. It says we won't see the 32nm quads until then. We will see 45nm Lynnfield (core i5 quad with dual channel mem controller, onboard PEG, less QPI) much sooner. It says this on pages 4 and 7. Your right, i missed that. I still thi...

Read the new review on Anandtech reguarding multiple GPU performance gains. You may end up realizing that SLI is a waist of money. http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3517&p=14 "In general, more than one GPU isn't that necessary for 1920x1200 with the highest quality settings" "As we've se...

Why NOT to get SLI

Heres another review showing exactly why SLI sucks. I really have no idea how this technology has even lasted this long. http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3517&p=14 Let me quote you the important stuff: "more than one GPU isn't that necessary for 1920x1200 with the highest quality settin...

I'd think it'd be quite the contrary. With less mass and the construction being more flimsy, it would tend to vibrate more. You'd think this to be true, but it seems that since there is less space, there is less play and its overall construction seems to be of a higher quality. The larger optical d...

But its time to write large amounts of small files had the least amount of time. So while it may lag behind on writing large files like you may s...

@Aris I don't know if you've bought into the i7 platform yet, but i5 is due 3Q09 or 4Q09, should be cheaper, and should do *almost* everything i7 can do. Current projection is Q4 of 2009, which to me sounds like this time next year since everyone seems to break their projection dates by at least a ...

Just stick a straight object, like a screwdriver or your finger, into the fan blades BEFORE you turn the system on. It wont have enough momentum to hurt you if you stop it before it begins spinning in the first place. Either that or you can place your finger on the hub of the fan while its spinning.

Are you sure the fan in the PSU is your issue? Have you stopped it while the system is running to verify? Opening your PSU will void the warrenty. Drive enclosures do almost nothing for vibrations. So while seeks may be muted a bit and you wont hear any "whoosh" sound, the vibration from hard mounting the drive will likely be just as loud as it was without the enclosure. Suspension really is the best way to do it. Either that or get a drive wi...
