Just to let you know, have "taken the plunge" and fitted and akasa icicle 311 to my Radeon 8500. Seems to work great but haven't fully tested 3d temps yet. Have posted details on main page... Thanks for your help and advice! How does the 311 fit on the card? I have a retail 8500 and there are a lot...

I use MBM5 but will usually install AsusProbe just to verify temps. BIOS temps are definitely NOT load temps. BIOS temps in Win NT-based OSes (Win2000, WinXP) will be higher than "in-Windows" idle temps because WIn NT has a "halt" command built into the OS. When the processor isn't doing any work it...

I just got an SLK-800 to put on my Tualeron rig. I put on the SLK-800 + ASIII with an 80mm Adda 26CFM, 22dB fan. Temps at idle dropped 2-3C for MoBo and CPU. Load temps for the MoBo dropped 3-4C, for the CPU they dropped 9C . Noise level remained the same. Hi Ralf, I forgot to ask you. What do you ...

Look at my rig specs below. I'm running an OCed 1.1A @ 1.475Ghz on default voltage. I'm using a Thermalright SLK-800 and a 7-volted Panaflo M1A fan. This runs 45-46C at full Prime95load and is damn near dead silent. You can't even hear the HS fan from more than 6-8" away. Prior to this I was running...

Nah, as you quiet one thing down, other noises become more noticeable.

Does anybody know how to quiet my heartbeat down? it's really starting to bug me.

I don't know if it completely applies here, but I've had first-hand experience with these 80-60mm adapters (actually the exact same one that ex2remember linked above). The problem with these is the back-pressure that is generated when trying to force the air through the funnel. A whole lot of fans d...

Someone's also having trouble with poor performance fromthe cuda V. I've been patiently waitiing to put an 80GB Barracuda V in my new sy...

However, I have determined via harddrive swapping that it doesn't seem to be a harddrive-specific problem: I took a harddrive from another computer that has the OS in working condition, plugged it into my computer, boot up and, surprise, blue screen occurs. Put the harddrive back to the other compu...

Today I pulled the 12V Adda off of the SLK-800 and replaced it with a 7-volted 80mm M1A. According to the specs this should be running about 16dB, 19 CFM. CPU load temps went up about 1-2C to 46-47C max. This fan is inaudible from more than 6" away. Next thing I did was take the 7-volted 120mm L1A e...

All the Sparkles I've heard are not too quiet and I've never heard of them having 1% voltage regualtion. They do have a pretty decent reputation though. I'd definitely go with the TruePower if you value silence. Don't forget that the TruePowers have those "fan-only" low voltage power connectors that...

Yes, I put black rubber window molding over the edges. Just for looks, not performance. I got it from Caseetc...

I'm pretty "in" to P4 OCing and 45-50C @ idle is certianly on the highest side of normal. You'd more commonly see high 20C to high 30C ranges at idle and mid 40C to mid 50C at load. These temps are with the retail HSF or maybe an 8942 or Swiftech 4000 and something like a 32 CFM Sunon or equivalent ...

The general consensus seems to be that aluminum cases are louder than steel cases so you might want to think about that. An excellent choice would be the good 'ol Antec SX10x0 series of cases. Holy Jebus! What a great idea! How come nobody's ever thought of this before?

Any reason a 7-volted 80mm L1A wouldn't work in this application? I have plenty of empty PCI slots so that wouldn't be an issue. Might add a stiffener across the top of the cooling card.

Yes, it's the SLK3700. It comes with a regular Antec "Smart Power" 350W PSU. I pulled it and put in the TruePower 380W PSU. I have the one 7-volted 120mm L1A on the rear wall, sucking out. I have another to go in front but I don't need it now. Maybe in the summer/fall when temps are higher.
