Do you have the AMB or the BQE version of this case? I feel that the best form of suspension is Stretch magic (found where beads are sold). With the BQE, using Stretch Magic should work easily with only 2 drives. I'm not as familiar with the AMB, but I'm sure that Stretch Magic can be applied there...

Follow the standard SPCR recommendation for troubleshooting noise issues: shut off the system and unplug one thing at a time until the vibration goes away. At that point you'll have identified the culprit and can start dealing with it instead of spending money willy-nilly at Comp-USSR. Been there, ...

I have about had it with this case. I tried suspending the drives and the case vibrates. Now I just ran down to CompUSA and got some of the Cooler and Anit Noise dampners and the case still vibrates. You can feel the whole top of the case vibrate. It reaches a resonate peak about every 3 seconds. Th...

SLK 3700 case vibration
Argh! My new system in a SLK 3700 case vibrates!. You can hear the vibration cycle through the case. It rises and lowers on about a 3 second cycle. Any thoughts on how to kill this vibration? I am pretty sure the source is the Samsung 160 Drive which worked inf in a older AL case.. I thought the rub...

Lived through Jerry's problem, lived through Lee's problem. Both were fixed with BIOS upgrades + newer drivers. (My board was ABIT KV8Pro with the K8T800 Pro chipset) It seems the onboard SATA driver does not show SATA drives as regular ATA drives. Especially if RAID BIOS is enabled. A BIOS update ...

Anyone have 64-bit windows XP up with SATA
Hi, I have a single SATA drive I want to install Windows XP 64 bit on. The problem is the drive is not seen by the installer. The system has a ASUS A8V MB and I downloaded the 64 bit SATA drivers from ASUS and hit F6 to load the drivers. But when I try to install the only drive Windows shows is a Sa...

Asus A8V deluxe generates Fan error message
Hi,
I just put together a Asus A8V deluxe. It works fine, but I get a CPU Fan error everytime I boot. The fan is turning. The CPU fan is a 120 mm attached to a FanMate2. Do I need to remove the fanmate?

Should I have ordered the S12 instead of a Super Silencer
Hi, I am building a system and just got a Seasonic Super Silencer 350. The system has a AMD 3200+, Asus A8V motherboard, 1 GByte of memory, and 2 - 250 GB SATA drivers. I ordered the Super Silencer more out of habit than anything else. However, after reading about the S12, I am wondering if I should...

3200+ and XP-120 will a 80 mm fan work?
Hi,
I also am getting an XP-120 and a AMD, but a 3200+. I know the fan is sized for a 120 mm, but is it possible to use a 80mm fan. I have a bunch of Panaflows.

Re: A new wrinkle
[ If it really only costs $200, then I'd go for it. That's a great deal--on Newegg, a 3.2 GHz P4 costs $200+ alone... For an Athlon rig, I'd get the 3200+ ($180 on newegg) and some socket-939 board for around ~$100. I don't think it should be $400 for CPU/MB alone... Generally speaking, the Athlon6...

Source in SF Bay Area for Antex 3000B or Sonata
Hi, I am interested in a Antex case. I know I can order one from an on-line shop, but with shipping and all it is a bit pricey. Besides something in me says there must be someone selling these things in the SF Bay Area. Antec is only 15 miles from house! Suggestions? jerry PS. Would the Sonata be as...

Hello Jerry: Otherwise, a SATA drive is fine, though you'll need a floppy (at least temporarily) installed to install Windows. And obviously, make two partitions at the beginning, so you can install Linux after Windows. No, actually you dont anymore. At least if you have a chipset with integrated s...

A new wrinkle
A friend of mine has a 3.2 GHZ Intel + MB he got at Fry's this weekend. It turns out he did not need it, and will sell it to me for $200. Cost $220. Should I give this a whirl, or go for the AMD 3200 based setup which looks like about $400. BTW, can you keep on of these 3.2 GHz Pentiums cool? jerry

If it were me, I'd get the following: ...voila. Very quiet, very fast system--and easy on the wallet as well. If you're short on cash, drop down to one of the slower Athlons, or stick with 512MB ram. Reasonably priced 3200 AMD-64 MB + CPU?
Hi, I posted a while back that I want to build a new system. People suggested that I use an AMD-64 processor. After lurking for a bit it shoulds like the 3200 (is that Winchester) would be a good way to go. Can anyone suggest a reasonably priced MB CPU combo. I am in the Bay Area, so Fry's is just d...

small Rheostat for monitor fan
Hi,
I have a Sony CDP-L1818A LCD monitor. This monitor has a 60 mm Panaflow fan, FBA06T12L, that is way too noisy. Can anyone suggest a small rheostat that I can use to decrease the voltage/speed on this fan. The fan is rated at 12 VDC, 0.13A.
Thanks,
jerry

I have used both the P4 HT and A64 in the same application. The on board memory controllers makes a difference, even when the clock speeds aren't equal. My A64 3000 runs loads single applications (just normal Windows type application such as Office, and Windows itself) much more quickly than the P4...

why no A64? there's no price premium on them any more, and using an XP will force you to use an ancient mb. aside from that, the changes also made them better as 32-bit CPUs; considering hardly anyone at home uses more than 4GB RAM the only real difference is 64-bit registers. :P If I don't have to...

New system time!
Hi, I am about to build a new system and am looking for advice. I am shooting for the 3.2 GHz range with 1 GByte of memory. Of course the system has to be quiet. My other system is a 2.4 GHZ with 512 MB, Samsung drive, ThermalRight heat sync cooler, Seasonics 400 PS. It is pretty quiet and I hope to...
