OK well, I'm going to go ahead and answer my own question. http://www.zotacusa.com/forum/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=36 The Intel standard heatsink has wire clips on two sides. When installing, you have to rotate the heatsink so the clips are not on the same side as the GPU heatsink, otherwise...

Our test system is fairly basic, featuring a Core 2 E7200, a 65W TDP mid-level dual core processor cooled by an Arctic Cooling Alpine 7 Pro connected to a variable DC fan controller so the fan's power draw does not come into play. The rest of the system consists of a single stick of Corsair memory,...

To be honest, I can only speculate on the remote's functionality... the point being though that you can do with it is only limited by Dell/Gyration's drivers for it. As for mediaportal, it is essentially media center but skinnable, pluggable and extensible. Otherwise, it's clean looking and stable a...

I still maintain that mini-itx with a slim, slot loading bdrom is the way to go. Who wants a big HTPC these days? Jetway and MSI both make a mean 780g AMD mini-itx that plays 1080p flawlessly. If you look in the right place, you can get a slot-loading slim blu-ray drive for <$300. Do what I have con...

If you are going with Vista, take a look at MediaPortal as an alternative to Media Center Edition. As for managing music without having the TV on, Dell has a very nice wireless RF remote with LCD. It's the M2010, and it's a Dell clone of the Gyration remote. Check out this thread: http://www.avsforu...

I use Vista on my main machine and yet I found Server08 to be very fast and responsive. I installed Media Player, but kept Aero off, and it has been very snappy - in person and over RDP. I set it up to be similar to WHS - 2 partitions, all data stored in D:\shared. I've only had it up for a few week...

I used WHS for a period of about 4 months...I built a machine specifically for it. Sorry, I can't see the picture. I think you'll find power consumption of HTPC case screens is quite low; take for example this one (http://www.pcalchemy.com/product_info.php/pName/origenae-s16t-htpc-case-7-touchscreen-builtin-ir-receiver-and-remote-black) which is a 7-inch touch screen. 9 Watts. I'm interested in seeing how this turns out. My idea of a proper HTPC would be to have a thin client - no hard drive, runs on a 8GB usb key. Connect to a networked server for all your media needs. Have you looked at using the Intel DG45FC (http://www.silentpcreview.com/article869-page1.html) mini-it...

I have also used the PW200V and Dell 200W brick (Y2515) to great success with an Asus P5E-VM mother board. I would suggest that you design your plug to match the output of the power brick. For me, that was, a 200W power brick outputs 18A at 12V. Since the power brick had an 8pin connector (3x +12V, ...

the PW-200-V is not ATX v2 compliant and hence will not boot on many modern desktop boards. it is also a major pita to connect it to a y2515 (especially when you subsequently discover that it will not boot your modern desktop board :/) Just to give an update; I recently finished my server PC runnin...

How are you connecting the Dell power brick to the PW200? Each of the 3 +12V connectors in the power brick cable are rated for 6Amps, 18A total (which is the rating of the power brick and PW200). If you are running them through the barrel jack connector of the PW200, it might not support that much c...

I would check the Geil ram, there should be a sticker on them listing the timings and voltage. Set the voltage and timings manually in the BIOS, then run Memtest overnight and use it normally. Well what with the price of RAM, I would suggest seeing if you can get it stable on a JEDEC 1.8V standard 1Gb stick. Because that would be the easiest to rule out. Did you check the event log? I have had overclocking failed messages on Asus boards too (P5K and P5B Deluxe)... I think that message pop...

Well, no, the only difference between a 20 pin and a 24 pin plug is an extra 4 pins for +12V, +5V, +3.3V and ground. Since the pins on an ATX molex are rated for about 6-10Amps, a motherboard that draws >18A will melt the plug. So they give a second set of pins to split the current across. Thus a sm...

I've thought about using this for a diskless Media Center. Since I have IPTV and not cable I can't do DVR recording, so the only thing I would need out of a media center is blu-ray/DVD playback and media playback.
