Re: new build soon
I'm thinking about getting 4-pin fans instead. But I have 3 case fans and only 2 chassis fan headers (not including the CPU fan header). Is it safe to run two fans off of one fan header? Can I use a splitter that connects directly to the board for power (but only connects one of the two fan's RPM se...

But niether has the 3225 :-( 3225 in stock at Newegg now: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116774 MicroCenter's in-store price for the i5-3570K is only $45 more. Tough decision. If I think I really want HD 4000, but I don't really need an i5, then perhaps that $45 could be b...

PS-07 (able to fit 120mm on top as exhaust) How? Where would the PSU go? Do any mATX mobos exist with PCI slots? Do you mean regular old (legacy) PCI? Sure, there are plenty. You can get mATX boards that have 1 or 2 PCI slots. And at minimum 1 PCI slot is a requirement for me when shopping for a mA...

Re: Ivy Bridge i3's coming June 24
Microcenter has now lowered the price of the i3-3220 to $109.99 which is $20 less than NewEgg. That didn't take long.
Hopefully that paves the way to a reasonably priced 3225, however I just found it at TigerDirect for $144.99 which is not a great price.

Re: new build soon
Thanks Pappnaas. I'm not using a video card for this build, iGPU only. But I may consider adding a rear fan anyway to help with the CPU and logicboard heat issues. The thing about this case is the logicboard is inverted, so the rear fan placement is quite low. I might want to allow the heat to escap...

Re: new build soon
I might try adding a vinyl tile (as SPCR member Belmonte mentioned doing in another thread), so that would only add a few mm and might work. I can't see why you would do this. We pick all components with regard to quietness, so i wouldn't expect the need to add dampening materials to begin with. Ri...

Re: new build soon
I personally consider anything above 5 mm as a luxury, so there's really nothing to worry about. The Precision PS-07 design was meant for a CPU tower cooler (notice the straight air flow made by the lower front fan and the rear fan) Right, OK. Do you think I should install a rear fan? I will have t...

Re: new build soon
7 mm is definitely enough room between the side panel and the CPU cooler. I wouldn't worry about, especially considering that many people only have 1 or 2 mm of free space. Thanks kuzzia. I think I'll go for the Mugen. And one nice thing about the PS07 is it has that little heatsink support thingy ...

NewEgg has the Ivy Bridge Pentium G2120 in stock. But at $99.99 it doesn't seem worth it when for just $30 more there is the $129.99 i3-3220.

Re: Ivy Bridge i3's coming June 24
I have to say, I'm not sure how believable the September 2nd date is, given the fact that it is on a Sunday in the middle of Labor Day Weekend. Is that a normal type of date for Intel to launch a product? I wonder if that is just some sort of "place holder" date that is just being used until the rea...

Re: new build soon
The Cooler Master Silent Pro M600 is just another 80+ Bronze PSU. I wouldn't spend $100 on a 80+ Bronze PSU. Wait a bit and Ralph should be reporting in on the GS 360 Gold . The G-series is interesting. However it is tough to believe they can sell a 80 PLUS GOLD for $60 without making some sort of ...

I currently have an older Seasonic. It's the S12-500W 500HT-F3BLR from 2005. Would the new S12II 430 (or 520) Bronze at least be a step up from the older Seasonic, or not? Maybe. Efficiency differences probably not noticable. Might use less power when in sleep/off as newer designs meet newer regula...

Re: Cooling Pentium G630
The difference between the 212 Plus and the 212 EVO is minimal. However, they should be priced similarly in which case you should of course choose the 212 EVO. Why? What makes the EVO better? Some people also prefer a low weight tower cooler since they're afraid of the constant pressure on the moth...
