Hi,
I really don't believe it make any difference. I go with whatever is easiest to build.

Hi, Hiya, I would put the intake underneath the front, and shorten and straighten the intake duct. You could try it with just the exhaust fans, or just with the "intake" fans. Where will the optical drive(s) go? I agree on both counts: The long air inlet path could actually create more noise by incr...

Consider: GPUs do in fact produce upto 300W What GPU is this? An 8800 Ultra is about 175W TDP. That's for the graphics chip, so the RAM will add some but real world conditions will take some away. Hi, Yes - but I'm interested in actual engineering, not dogma, and anyway the Ultra Extreme won't fit in my case. Unless I've mis-read the article, the S1 is showing a temperature rise of 10C over local ambient with a Nexus 120 fan attached running at 5V. The article does not mention whether that's ...

Hi, Do we have an actual power output available for the graphics card used in the test? so we could caluclate the actual C/Watt performance of this cooler and compare it with CPU coolers. If I understand correctly the S1 was keeping the GPU 10C above local ambient, which puts most CPU coolers to sha...

Hi, There seem to be a few 120mm PWM fans, but no 140mm. We use a 140mm fan for the CPU cooling package on the PaQ case. I find it significantly quieter than any 120mm fan for the same airflow. The fan we use is a Yate Loon D14SM-12. We get them from Jab-Tech and fly them to the UK, and they still e...

Hi, The iGreen is not that quiet even on idle, but it ramps up very quickly indeed as you say. I found a pic in the middel of this page which explains why. OK, it's a year old now, but I bet nothing has changed. The HS is far too small, and the fins far to tightly spaced. The air just goes round the...

Hi, One of the things coming to my mind is in regards to having a 120mm exhaust right near the CPU like that. Could work quite well to duct that exhaust fan to an XP-120 cooler on the CPU. We do that in the PaQ case, and you don't need an exhaust fan at all - the CPU fan acts as the exhaust all on i...

Hi, I recently ordered a carton of the Coolermaster iGreen 430 PSUs as everybody upto and including the Main European distrubutors was out of the Seasonic S-12s I normally use in the PaQ case. It's dreadful. 17dB? No way (well at 20m maybe), not even at idle. The PSU drowns out everything else by mi...

Hi, I'm in no doubt that ducting the hot air out of the case helps. In every heat calculation I have done for a machine that does not have a mobster graphic card the CPU cooling requirement dominates the overall cooling solution. Every 1C you knock off the internal case temp reduces the average temp...

I use this:

We hadn't thought of selling the foam on it's own, but I'm sure we could.

Hi, Yes. You can plug a 3pin fan in, and it will work; but it runs at 12v all the time as the fan control goes through the new PWM pin, and a 3pin fan won't be connected to that. Some mobs have a bio setting to alter the power votage instead. Apparantly there is also a PWM version of the 3pin mobo h...

Hi, So far I have found two solutions to this problem. 1. Use a different (3pin) fan header. This works fine on the Intel DP965LT because the header for the rear exhaust fan is 3pin, and its output voltage is tied to the Motherboard temperature. The sensor is so close to the CPU that it might as wel...

Hi, None of the above. The question cannot be answereed by a simplistic multiple choice polll you need to coinsider the completel airlow through the case, the layout and location of the main heat producing units. Once that is known you can consider what arrangement of ans and vents will work best in...

Hi, Yes - PWM fans require 4 pins - Ground, 12V, Sensor, PWM. If you plug an ordinary 3 pin fan into a PWM header it works fine, but it runs at full speed the whole time. Some motheboards have a Bios option to vary the 12V voltage line rather than output a PWM signal. I have been using Globalwin fan...

Hi Shaggy, At the moment we only have the prototypes - built one VeroBoard rather than a custom PCB. And of course no retail packaging - just the circuit and a cable to connect it to a 4pin PWM header on the motherboard. It's mounted on a PVC plate with a self adhesive backing. But they work fine. I...

Even inside a case, and even at 600rpm or less, I have yet to find a genuinely inaudible fan. Have you tried the new Noctua fans? Also as we discussed in the other thread any fan must make noise as a result of the way it moves air, so acoustic foam and baffled intakes and exhausts are necessary for...
