P-150: Front USB connectors
I just got my P-150 up and running and have a problem with the front USB connector. My motherboard has a different pin configuration and I wonder if there is an adaptor available or whether I can move the wires around within the plastic plug. I thought about switching the whole thing to one which ha...

I was looking for this very thing yesterday to isolate my fans with cable ties (zip ties to the Americans). I ended up getting the same thing I got for my other system, some rubber sealing rings from the plumbing dept. They're a little on the hard side but they seem to work fine in my other system s...

I have the Etymotic ER-4P and they are really great. Take a bit of getting used to, particularly when out walking. In fact, they're TOO good for being out walking as you can't hear ANYTHING and, despite the fact that I thought that I would like that, it's actually a little spooky. The cable is micro...

Kustom PCs couldn't get them in and Komplett nl and be wouldn't ship to lu. I ordered a couple of the 250 gig ones from www.e-bug.de (but what a nightmare of an order process. Sheesh. Emergency purchases only)
Thanks for bringing these drives to my attention Tibors. Much obliged to you.

I have an XP-120 on a 3500+ Winchester with a Nexus 120mm fan at the lowest fanmate setting, whatever that is. I've overclocked to 220 FSB @ 11 so am at 2.42GHz. Temps under load are around 40ºC. It is a bugger to put on and remove though. I almost put a screwdriver right through the motherboard try...

Looks nice and tidy. I'm about to build my P150 so I shall look at your pics for some cable-management tips. Just wondering about the rear case fan. Does it make much of a difference to your temps? I'm contemplating running my Ninja with a Nexus 120 and no case fans (or maybe no Ninja fan and the Ne...

Cool! I just heard about this on TWiT . I had to learn to touch-type in Russian as my keyboard is UK English. This kind of thing would work great for us in the office. It seems that most people can't touch-type and we have loads of nationalities at work working with accented characters and buying ke...

I just got my P-150 today and will be building it over the next few days. SN on the PSU is S05090020107, bought from Kustom PCs in the UK. It will be running a Gigabyte GA-8ITX with P4 Willamette and RDRAM. Now the SN is reported, I can throw away the bit of paper and forget about it. Fingers crosse...

Many thanks for the helpful info Tibors. I'll do some digging and see what I can find. Perhaps my preferred UK dealer (Kustom PCs) can order in the 250 gig ones. I had them order me in a Samsung 213T monitor so I know that they can do that for things they don't have listed on their site. If I were t...

That kind of reminds me of the time that I read about an ATM displaying a BSOD message from Windows NT. Thanks Andy. Yes, it's a recycled system so PATA only for this one. I'm not one for waving my willy in the playground, so an 8 meg cache will do just fine. I'll report back with what I choose when I'm done. Incidentally, I found a 3.5" external enclosure from Icy Box that has both USB 2 and Firewire...

Englishman's first thoughts - "A quarter the size of what...? Do they come in half sizes too?" LOL! I thought exactly the same thing! I added the euro coin in for that reason, but I guess that might not help the UK posters either so lets say a 10p piece. Now if they can make a working hard drive th...

25 cent coin-sized HDD
Just saw this over at anandtech.com in their news from CES . A hard drive the size of a quarter (or a 1 euro coin, I guess) http://images.anandtech.com/reviews/tradeshows/2006/CES/day3/toshiba085inch2.jpg It's 0.85" with storage of 4 gigs and 3600 RPM. The march of technology! There is also a 1.8" p...

Keep in mind, the remote desktop server is only avialable under XP-Pro, and it doesn't allow you to standby/restart/shut-down the remote machine. Try realVNC or something similar. One workaround to this is the 'shutdown' console command in Windows. I use this occasionally when doing maintenance on ...

What large-capacity HDD for file server?
I'm looking for two large capacity drives for a file server which is going to be a recycled, sound-dampened GMC NeoClassic case. The primary purpose will be to serve FLACs to a Squeezebox 3 audio network over 802.11g. Given the bandwidth limitations (even if I were to go with Gigabit LAN), I presume...

Thanks for coming back, Isaac. Less heat and noise certainly makes sense, so I'll probably not use the 40 gig drive after all and get an external USB2 enclosure to use it and my other 40 gig drive for backups. Any recommendations of a couple of large IDE drives for the server? Perhaps 5400 RPM drive...

I would only need one optical drive so that would leave three IDE channels spare, one for OS and two for DATA. How would the master/slave thing best be configured? I prefer eliminating the separate boot drive. It reduces the overall chances of a hard drive failure. It reduces noise, heat, and power...
