hi guys, i'm planning on buying a celeron 2.8GHZ to use with xp-120. do you think this would run passively without a fan to go with xp-120 ? the case will probably be sonata with a nexus 120mm case fan. or would a sempron 3300+ run cooler than the celeron? i couldnt find the power consumptions on e...

Re: Yonah

TDP 16W ! http://www.x86-secret.com/?option=newsd&nid=884 makes me think twice about wanting to buy a Sempron 3300+ 90nm and undervolt :/ The Sempron 3300+ (E-stepping) still kicks ass. I just rebuilt my Media Center 2005 system with a Sempron 3300+ and I'm *extremely* happy with the results. Now I...

I think I'll wait for SPCR to review it before I make any purchases. It is tempting through. By the way, thanks for the link; I didn't know that there was another thread. I ran a search for "Drive-A-Way" and it didn't come up with it. Mike: any chance you or Kostik (or Ralf or Edward or Devon or Ru...

Definitely a C3...

Something like a VIA EPIA M10000 would be a good choice. Use the onboard video, sound, network, etc. All you would need is a case, a slimline DVD and a 2.5" HDD and they'd be set. Only one moving part (CPU fan), and some cases get away from that with heatpipes. I've found with parents, that the fewe...

Went with the 92mm Nexus

Running it at 7V seems to give decent cooling as well as low noise.

Thanks!

Bueller? Bueller?

Anyone using the front 120mm fan to cool a passive video card?

Echo!

Did you manage to get that information out of them? :D

Passive cooling an FX5950U in a Sonata question

So, I have a decent Sonata setup (v1 Sonata, Seasonic S12-330 power supply, Intel D865PERL MB, P4 2.4/800, (2) Seagate 7200.8 80GB SATA drives, Zalman CNPS7000-AlCu, Gainward FX5950 Ultra/256). I currently have a *noisy* NV4 Silencer on the video card and it has driven me nuts, so I'm replacing it w...

Power supply is $135.95 and the heatpipe is $76.95, so I'm cringing a bit at the potential cost of the case (however cool-pun intended-it is).

You can see more info at http://www.hifiatx.com/, which is the mCubed web site for their joint venture with Silverstone.

Matrox rules the roost for 2D

I've got a Matrox G450 dualhead AGP card in my office system with a PCI Matrox G450 (in the event that I decide to do triple monitors) and it is just about perfect for anything non-gaming related. Used to have an ATI 9600 Pro in the machine and I swapped out for better 2D quality. Here's a compariso...

You could always try something like this...

http://mini-itx.com/projects/fsrs/ Given that it is based off of a PD10000 Mini-ITX board, it pretty much meets the 'cool and quiet' mandate (although the drives may be noisy). Personally, I'd do the project with SATA drives and a SATA RAID card. Hey...I need a file server and I have a network rack...

Too bad they're all PCIe

Some of us are still too invested in AGP. :(

I guess there's still the SIS 760 chipset for Socket 754.

I'd like to, yes. The mounting system for the OM-1 is pretty simple (e.g. screws with the heads in a slot on the heatsink that the fan mounts on). Pretty hard to screw that up, unless the 92mm fan is too wide for the heatsinks. From the photos and handy-dandy movies on Zalman's site, it looks like i...

The 5950 Ultra runs HOT

I think I need the fan as the 5950U is a very hot-running card and I don't want to fry it. I figure the 92mm Nexus should push a decent amount of air at a lower voltage w/out causing too much noise...

Similar problem with NV 4 Silencer

I have an NV 4 Silencer on a Gainward FX5950 Ultra and it is annoying the crap out of me. Too loud when compared to the VGA Silencer on my ATI Radeon 9600 Pro (MCE PC). I'm planning on switching to a ZM80-D and a 92mm Nexus fan using the stock mounting approach as the OM-1 fan (although with longer ...

Dimensions on a Zalman ZM80-D?

Long-time lurker, first-time poster here... I'm thinking about replacing my (insanely noisy) Arctic Cooling NV Silencer 4 with a Zalman ZM80-D plus fan. However, I've heard that the OP-1 fan from Zalman is pretty noisy as well. What I'd like to do is use a 92mm Nexus fan and use the same mounting me...
