I was under the impression that the fact that a HS does not get hot usually means it is not getting proper contact with the chip. The passive sink on my A7N8X (stock sink) gets pretty friggin hot even at 166, and I always take that as "Hey, its doing its job, getting the heat off the chip and into t...

The OEM panaflo is rated to 0.2A; the retail one at 0.24A - this suggests that the OEM is a less powerful version. Maybe the blade design makes up for it but I doubt it. The OEM version probably has an inferior airflow. That's kind of a rash statement based simply on the Amperage and no practical k...

Here's another link: LINK How does the Creative Slix relate to the SS51? The Creative Slix is a Home Theater PC marketed by Creative Labs. The device is near identical to the Shuttle SS51 with the exception of the front face-plate which features Creative Slix branding, and a clear color. More inform...

Looks like a Shuttle XPC to me. That heatpipe is cool, but it is generally considered here that the PSU fan is way too loud and not replaceable.

I certainly wouldn't remove the Dynamat. It definitely isn't *causing* noise or any other harm, other than tons of weight. Maybe a layer of paxmate on Dynamat would make an effective barrier. Paxmate is really cheap.

Basically that is what the Acoustipack product is. A heavy layer on bottom, with a couple different softer layers to take out the other end of the spectrum. Really any solution will have to cover the spectrum to be completely effective.

Will these things hold a wire fan grill in place along with the fan? Not by themselves. You have to modify them by drilling a small hole in them and using a small self-tapping screw and a flat washer to screw the fan guard onto the isolators. It's a pain in the butt. I used mine to hold a wire fan ...

Less than a meter for me. Probably the loudest thing now is the Hydor L20 pump, sitting on foam. And that's pretty quiet. Also the sound of the 120mm pushing air across the radiator is a little bit.

and how exactly do you use -foreasm and -advmethods?
IF you use the graphical program, edit the "target" or path for the shortcut and make it look like so:

Code: Select all

"C:\Program Files\Folding@Home\winfah.exe" -local -forceasm -advmethods

Yeah, that's kind of weird. A couple of the PC's here on the network get a little hung up on the firewall. Gromacs are the newer WU's that use the enhanced SSE instructions for the PII, P4, and Athlon procs. Tinkers don't use as many optimizations, and tend to be slower and many less points/hour. One interesting thing I found is that the points are calculated by how long it takes a Celeron 400(i think?) ...
