Hopefully Thermalright will sell an optional duct. I know they had one available for the HR-01 that allowed the heatsink to be ducted to a rear 120mm fan.

Yup, most try not to use 3.3V so that molex -> SATA adapters can be used. I've used adapters in quite a few builds and never ran into an SATA HDD or optical drive that wouldn't work with them.

As long as you have decent case airflow (or you just want to point a fan at the heatsink, you don't need a lot of airflow, a quiet fan at 5V or 7V would be plenty), an Accelero S1 rev 2 shouldn't have any trouble cooling that card. You might have to modify the heatsink for it to fit, though, I think...

Free: Seagate Barracuda IV 40GB

Was just curious if anyone would be interested in a Seagate Barracuda IV 40GB disk (model number ST340016A). Nothing fancy by today's standards, but for many years these were about the quietest 7200RPM drives you could get. And they're still pretty nice, would make a good HDD for a simple and cheap ...

You could buy a Socket AM3 retention mechanism w/P4 clips. I'm using this one with an original Ninja.

Came out to about $50 for black anodized aluminum, 2.00mm thickness. At the upper end of w...

Bumping this again, does anyone know of a similar service in the US? I've always liked this mod, might be interested in adding an aluminum front panel to mine if I can get it fabricated without spending too much ($50 or so would probably be the absolute max, not sure if this is doable).

I turned on PWM from bios and now it's quiet. But in gaming it boosts back to the 1400RPM. Would a GT 1150rpm be sufficient while keeping the max volume acceptable? Do you have a Gigabyte motherboard? That's one thing I really don't like about mine, the PWM profile for the CPU fan is way too aggres...

Yeah the Mugen 2's stock fan is actually pretty decent. Probably too loud for a lot of people on this site at 1200RPM, but if you use PWM and let your motherboard control the fan speed, it probably won't ever run that fast. If you have fan control off and are just letting it run at full speed 24/7, ...

What's the purpose behind two 5450s? If you want to increase gaming performance using Crossfire, you're generally better off with a single, more powerful card than two cheapies. Your options are kind of limited in a low profile case like the NSK-1480, though (I'd assume this is why you're Xfiring tw...

Tricool runs at 1200RPM on low, so the 1150RPM GT will probably be comparable in the noise department. Definitely go with the 800RPM fans, for 120mm I think that's about the best compromise between noise and airflow that you're going to get.

It's legit. I guess sometimes the BGA solder joints on graphics cards and other components fail (maybe due to flexing of the PCB and stuff like that, I'm not completely sure why). Baking them heats up the solder and allows it to reflow, fixing the joints. I mean obviously it won't work every time, d...

If you look at 20%, 50% and 100% load, modern PSUs should be more efficient. S12 was a nice PSU during its day, but modern 80Plus Bronze, Silver, and especially Gold designs are better. When you plot power supply efficiency, it will have a curve with efficiency dropping off slightly as you approach ...

One problem is that I think that PSU uses a thin 80mm fan (15mm I'd guess), so this makes swapping it out a bit more complicated. You might not be able to stick an 80x25mm fan in there. If there wasn't enough room inside the PSU, though, you could mount an 80x25mm fan on the outside of the casing. T...

Also note that they'd have to be the same fan to ensure the voltage drop across the two is about equal. Otherwise you might end up with a situation where you get like 5V across one fan and 7V across the other.

GTS 250 isn't exactly a short card. Some quick Googling suggests they're about 9" long, and the Accelero S1 is about 8.5" long, so it shouldn't add much/any length to your card. Honestly I see no reason to get the S2 instead of the S1. That said, S2 is a pretty capable heatsink. Should be able to ha...

Two things: 5400RPM and 2-platter. I had a 1TB 7200RPM 3-platter Samsung that was pretty loud, especially before suspension. Suspending it helped quite a bit, but getting rid of it and replacing it with a 2-platter 5400RPM 1TB drive helped even more. The HD103SI I have now is very quiet.
