Hmm. Hopefully my quest for quiet won't go out the window. Here's what I'm looking at right now but I don't know if it has the right amount of 12V rails. http://www.nexustek.nl/nx3500.htm The nexus only has 16A on the 12V rail and that's not going to be enough for a 6800 graphics card plus a mother...

That connector was introduced for motherboards that use the 12V rail for the CPU as opposed to the 5V rail on earlier boards. As you're going to have to get a new PSU, make sure you get one with plenty of current capacity on the 12V rail. The older style supplies typically have 15-16A on the 12V rai...

Perhaps you should first check out the recommended PSUs section and read the excellent reviews.

The Enermax noisetaker 375 is also just under £50 in the UK (www.microdirect.co.uk). It's rated at 3.3V (30A), 5V (32A), 12V1 (14A) and 12V2 (13A), 370W total.

It's very quiet in my system but of course that will depend on your ambient temps.

It could be the % load could be a function of VA and not Watts. Do you know whether or not you have an Active PFC PSU? I just checked the supply used and I don't know if it's active or passive. It doesn't mention PFC at all, but I assume it must be one or the other because I'm in the UK and PFC is ...

Yes, the capacitors in the PSU store charge that can be potentially letal. I am reliably informed, by someone that knows much more than I on such matters, that contrary to popular belief, pressing the power on button with power removed does not discharge the electrolytic capacitors in the power supp...

I have the Noisetaker 370W version and I can't hear it in my system. Even with the fan control on the back set to high. My Maxtor HD is now the loudest thing in my system (high pitch constant spinning of the disk). I really can't imagine you'd be disappointed with the Noisetaker. I have no experienc...

Using an UPS to measure my system power usage

Hi, Just wondering if this is a sensible way to measure my systems power usage or if it's technically flawed. I have an APC 420VA UPS (300 Watts). The software records % load being placed on the UPS. It shows my system placing a 46% load on the UPS when the CPU is idle and 50% when the CPU is fully ...

Agreed. You also have to remember who these tools are aimed at. I see all over the web folks recommending "minimum 450W supply" for a given setup when clearly a quality 300-350W supply would be fine. Problem is, many folks buy generic supplies that aren't high quality. In this context I think these ...

1) I know about the whole "coil whine" thing. What surprized me was that it only had coil whine when it was NOT connected to the mobo. Maybe you only get whine when there is no load on the supply. When you connect to the system there is load being placed on the supply. Don't forget these supplies a...

Enermax Noisetaker 375 - recommended

Hi Everyone, Well, after reading the great review of various power supplies I purchased the recommended Nexus 300 and also the Enermax noisetaker 375 model with active PFC. Just like to report I'm really pleased with both (the Nexus is dirt cheap in the UK - only £26) Both are really quiet and I can...
