Re: Installing AC Twin Turbo Pro on my XFX 5850

Oh I see, that's very good indeed  You won't have the chance to use the rear crossbar as the included screws are too short, of course if you can find longer ones nothing will stop you from doing it, it surely will be better than the 4 screws alone. Just be careful to check the stock backpla...

Re: Installing AC Twin Turbo Pro on my XFX 5850

Are you sure the cooler will fit on the stock 5850? Check if the DVI shield touches it before assemblying, if that's the case, you'll have to cut the lower left fins a bit.

Re: Introducution....wanabe silent cosmos 1000

I wouldn't touch the PSU, too much of an expense. If I'm not wrong, it uses the same fan as the Coolermaster Silent Pro, so it's not that noisy either. Can you turn it around so that it pulls air from the bottom? As you said you're already using some kind of rubber grommets, I think the hard drive s...

For a cheaper alternative, Arctic Freezer 13, but the Hyper 212+ is also fine as is. All of them are very easy to install.

Damn English then... we're fine. But I still fail to understand why one has to call for another's personal studies on thermodynamic when talking about a damn heatsink and undervolting, so bear with me, I think you would feel mightily upset too.

I'll report on my "old" Samsung 2043MW. The first unit I used for two years had a noticeable high-pitched whine while in standby and a lower-pitched one while on with brightness set at less than 50%. It broke last month, the unit I got as a replacement has no such issue, so I guess I had bad luck wi...

Re: cooling in tight spaces

The Q08 has a pretty good layout, heat coming from the video card won't be a problem. You have a few litres of slow moving air with at least ~220-240W heat power inside and it's not an issue to care about? I'm not going to be ironic: are you an engineer, or it's just a bit shallow answer the above ...

Re: Zotac IONITX-P-E CULV Motherboard

Too little, too late. Socket 1156 ITX boards have far more power for the cost, and the power consumption difference isn't enough to warrant any benefit. If low power has priority over speed, Atom is still the way to go.

Re: Scythe Kabuto a Good Alternative to Mini Ninja for NSK24

I'd not go passive on a top-down heatsink, but check Rasetsu's height without a fan. It might fit, it has a higher mass compared to the Kabuto and might be better at passive cooling.

Re: cooling in tight spaces

The Q08 has a pretty good layout, heat coming from the video card won't be a problem. And undervolting these CPUs reduces drastically the already low heat output: the stock heatsink might not be good in any way, but it surely can be run at a lower speed once tweaked, at no extra cost . That's a plus...

Don't forget the AXP comes without a fan, that's why the Samurai is a good value.

The 210 is too slow to be of any use in those apps, he might as well pick an Ati card at that point.
If you can afford the cheapest GTS 450 available, then it will be a solid choice. Otherwise, if you value silence, a passive HD5670 will be perfect and cheap enough to recommend.

Weird... many other sites are citing a very high idle noise for the stock cooler, while here it looks like it's actually very good. Seems they tuned fan speed accordingly in the newer BIOSes. Good to hear about the VRM temps, with both the 5870 and 5850 they were an issue even with the stock cooler ...

It surely looks like ti could deliver! Only things that worry me are the usual Zalman quirks: price and fan quality. It also looks like it's a bit too fast to be considered silent (900 RPM on a 140mm fan is a LOT).

Interesting... a 6850 clocked at 820/1100 MHz performs exactly the same as a stock 5850.

Anyway, looks like Powercolor did a nice job with this card's cooler.
