Thanks again! That brings me to another 2 questions: #1: would you guys go for the Ultra 120 or the Scythe Ninja? Both would be used with a Nexus 120mm fan so noise should be the same. #2: can you attach the Nexus to these coolers in an alternative way to the provided clips, such as physically (e.g....

Thanks for the info and re-assurance ;) I know some heatsinks have their own retention systems which are more secure. The Intel one though is rather notorious at having one ping "pop" out once you get the other 3 secured :p Could there be anything wrong with "tying" the cooler to the top of the chas...

Quick Question: Coolers Too Heavy For Upright Tower Chassis?

Hi all. I am building a new rig and the last decision I have is the CPU cooler. I want to go for something like the Thermalright Ultra 120 or the Scythe Infinity/Ninja (in all cases it will be with a Nexus 120mm fan). I am just a little worried with the weight seeing that it is going into a tower ch...

Just checking if there is perhaps more than a single owner out there in the SPCR community.

Hi there. Yes from what I hear they are OEM/rebranded AC coolers...which isn't really a bad thing. There is just one review I found at PC Modding Malaysia, and they say it is extremely quiet. However, any other review site's "extremely quiet" could be an SPCR's jet turbine :p Anyone out there actual...

Yes, Nexus fans will replace the Tricool. However I have read varying opinions: some say have the air blow toward the rear, some say it is better to have air blowing down so as to cool the mobo components and RAM.

Thermaltake TMG Coolers....anyone own/use one?

Hi all. The TT TMG coolers look mighty interesting. Yes, they have had some bold and often bogus claims in the past, but I recently heard the Big Typhoon, rated at 16dB, and it was indeed extremely quiet. The TMG has gotten a few very good reviews, but haven't heard much from the SPCR crowd about th...

Hi there. Having thought more about it, the DS3 looks like the better option. I am not overclocking, and ultimately need something stable and reliable. I was unsure about the DS3 because #1 it only has 2 fan headers which is a real dissapointment (but to be honest, I will only have 2 fans in my syst...

P150 & CPU Cooler Choice: Blowing Down or Toward Exhaust

Hi all. One quick question I had....I want to build a new system with a P150 chassis. I plan to have just two fans: CPU and exhaust. However this is the dilemma: I know that if the CPU cooler blows air toward the exhaust, there is no real need for an intake fan at the front. However, I often see it ...

Asus M2NPV-VM: Experiences?

Hi all. Just wanted to find out what experiences you guys have had with the Asus M2NPV-VM (AM2 motherboard with on-board Geforce 6150 graphics and nForce 430 chipset). It is upgrade time and I do not the most powerful system, and prefer something which will be cool, quiet, efficient....no overclocki...

BUMP....it is now definitely down to either the Asus Silent Square or the Thermaltake Big Typhoon VX. The Asus has the benefit that it can blow air toward the back to improve overall airflow, weighs less and is smaller. Plus, it has a PWM fan. The Big Typhoon is larger and heavier, but I believe qui...

Thanks for the info guys. My last question: do you know of any problem with changing the fan to a Nexus 120mm fan? Hi all. It is still a toss-up between the P5B Deluxe and the 965P-DS3. Although it is a bit more expensive there are a few reasons I am considering the Asus: - eSATA ports on the back panel - Q-Connector and Q-Fan features - 3 system fan headers + 1 CPU fan header That last point is particularly imp...

Reason that is considered is because it is cheaper than other coolers here (of which there are not many - very limited local availability); cools very well (especially since it blows down onto all the components & RAM)...

Thermaltake Big Typhoon VX: Quick Question

Just one quick question about the TTBT VX: to install it on an LGA775 CPU, do you need to attach a retention bracket at the back of the motherboard or can it use the stock bracket? Reason I ask is that one may need to go on a Gigabyte GA-965P-DQ6, which has a special heatspreader at the back of the ...

Hi again. After checking various information and pricing, I think the Intel has fallen out of contention. The two front runners are now the Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 and the Asus P5B Deluxe, which would be about the same price. The Gigabyte has serial but no eSATA (not too critical - I'm getting a Vantec...

Motherboard Choice for E4300 (Intel vs Asus)

Hi all. After some deliberation, the CPU choice for a new, cool, quiet PC was made and it will be the Intel E4300. Now it is time to choose a motherboard. Asus Silent Square: A few questions

Hi all. While searching for a cooler for a new system, I came across the Asus Silent Square. Re: Athlon 64 X2 3800+/4000+ or Intel E6300

And the main reason is safety. All too often the drive housing windows and apps can die, and having the working files on a separate makes it so much easier to recover with an image.

I thought about the E4300, but the E6300 is just a little extra here (roughly $30 more) but exceedingly better.

Hi all. Just wanted to get any opinions on anyone who owns or has had experience with the Zalman 9700NT.
