Re: Looking to hush up my computer, P280?
Get the Antec Solo with two front 120mm fans and one back 120mm fans. Get the Seasonic X 650 PSU. Most of the time the fan will be stopped, but it will kick in when and if you need it. Replace all your fans with undervolted Nexus 120mm running at about 700 rpm. Then experiment by leaving just a sing...

Re: GT 610 vs HD 6450
The only thing a mid-range gaming card gets you is the ability to run games, not an improvement in 2D display. Any modern card that has DisplayPort, Dual DVI, or even VGA can run your monitors. So for just running Aero I'd highly recommend using IGP instead of getting such crappy cards. Note though...

Re: Intel DH77DF, finally a silent system
In my case, the FSP300-60GHS-R sits at the bottom and I remove its top cover and fan completely so heat rises up into the enclosure. Similarly I remove the fan from the RCX-Z90-CP (it rubs a lot so it's not quiet even at slow RPMs). Then I mount an Artic cooling 120mm case fan (Arctic F12) running ...

FSP Group FSP300-60GHS-R 300W SFX12V 80 PLUS Certified Power Supply This is a very under appreciated power supply. It is an SFX powersupply that comes with a plate that permits it to mount as an ATX power supply. It is perfect for small ITX cases such as the Lian Li Q07. It leaves extra room in the...

Re: Quiet CPU heatsink for a DH101 case. (Height < 100mm / 3
There is a ventilation grid along the back of the case lid . The CPU is more or less below this grid . The holes aren't too big, but I was hoping that I could get quite close to this grid with a top-down heatsink and that it would draw air from outside the The only way to find out is to try. But th...

If you are assembling it yourself, try the stock fan first. If not, just get the Scythe Zozuti. It will better than either of the other two... and are you certain the other two will even fit?

Re: Recommend a PSU/case/fan setup for my config
I looked through the cases that ces recommended. The Lian li-cases in particular seem to be of high quality. However, most of the cases are a bit on the big side, or rather, they provide a lot of space that I don't really need; I'm not likely to ever mount additional hard drives, a graphics card or...

Don't forget, unless you use a heatsink with an under hung fan, you are going to need about 25mm of breathing room on top of any downdraft heatsink. That sort of limits you to Noctua NH-L12 Prolimatech Samuel 17 Scythe Big Shurekin The Noctua NH-L12 with a Nexus 120mm fan stuffed underneath as an un...

We'll probably never know for sure, but I'm betting we'd all laugh if we found out that the OP has well under a terabyte of files spread across those 14 disks that he was looking to keep running. I think he has indirectly indicated something to that effect. But so what. It is a real problem to him....

If you set them for a tight defrag, many of the more thorough ones seem to move a lot more files around than you would expect.

there is no risk . No more than there is in accessing ... and thus is riskier than raw copying. 1. Sounds like you may have some data loss incident in the past that has lead you to mistrust copying data. 2. Actually adding a write adds a bit more risk. But leaving data on a disk, and doing nothing ...

Dropping the big PSU for a PicoPSU will also mean you can use a smaller case. Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think that is so with a Micro-ATX board. Pretty much any case that takes a Micro-ATX board is going to have room for either a traditional ATX or SFX PSU. I can think of only one expen...

I don't know if this has been proven, but if a drive already makes a lot of noise or vibrates much while suspended, it does seem logical to me that suspending a drive could exacerbate reliability problems. One odd thing I notice in the xbit article: They measure a Slip Stream 12M @1170 RPM at 14.2 CFM, while the Slip Stream PWM @1050 RPM pushes 19.1 CFM of air.
