Interesting. The knee-jerk answer is "all mobos have a jumper to switch whether the USB ports get power from +5V or +5VSB, switch yours from +5VSB to +5V!" Except having had quick peek at the manual it appears the GA-MA78G-DS3H has no such jumper(s), which is a surprise to me but ...! Things to try ...

I am sure this has been discussed before, but can anyone explain why things are always much more expensive in the EU/UK than in the US? OK, I'll bite. VAT. Plain and simple. this is for Folding, so max freq all the time. in any case undervolting saves more power than downclocking. the reduced clocks are usually just done to enable lower Vcore. Is that all it is, ... More or less, yes. The standby circuit is probably spec'd at 5A on the 5VSB circuit, 25W total. In addition to the mobo itself you may have a few other components (plugged into the mobo, even via USB depending on jumpers, and/or keyboard, mouse etc) actually 'alive' while the...

So, I'm hoping that maybe someone can tell me whether this is bad for my PSU. IMHO probably not. Most off-the-shelf components (your psu in this case) are engineered for extreme conditions that may not be what you are providing. The bottom line is temperatures: your psu probably has an ambient spec...

90% likely the mobo, 9.99% likely the psu otherwise definately the switch/case. Or to be fair on the mobo may be a particular mobo/psu combination that is just like that. But the mobo should hold a signal down for long enough (when the power switch is pushed) to get the psu to start. My suspicion is...
