The real problem with premium caps in the PSU is obtaining the caps. I have not found a US bulk supplier of Rubycon caps in the US, so I buy them in Hong Kong in 200 piece lots. Add $25 for FedEx shipping... Some of the offending caps are a smaller size than is usually available. I have found a dist...

I'm seeing about 33~35C at idle, inside a Solo case. There is a hot running video card installed, and a Rocket V pci slot cooler to manage the video card. I compared the same Zipang on an Intel D915GAG board running a Pentium 530 Prescott (hot, hot, hot). But... I was reading BIOS temps, not the fin...

"Solid State Capacitor" sounds like a marketing type who doesn't know a polymer cap from a hole in the ground. Polymer caps are terrifically more expensive than electrolytics. That usually results in "death by bean counter" at the onset. Typical PSU run capacitance values anywhere from 1000uF to 330...

I have two of these: MSI Passive Video Card This card occupies 1.5 PCI slots, so it is big. The heat sink has a 4-way steel back plate that supports it. Very solid. This card also runs smokin' hot without an auxiliary cooler. This is the solution to overheating I bought several of the Rocket V coole...

Heat Pipes Cool To The Touch
I am new to heat pipe cooled HSF units. I am building multiple systems using the Scythe Zipang coolers and Red Scorpion 1200 rpm fans. I was testing this HSF running on a Pentium 530 Prescott (hot, hot, hot) and the heat pipes did not get warm. Increasing the air flow dramatically cooled the process...

Arctic Silver recommends a number of hot-to-cold cycles to properly cure AS5 paste. I tell my clients to turn the machine on and off daily for two weeks. During testing of a new E8400 machine, I noticed the temps steadily declining after a complete thermal cycle. HSF is a Zipang with Red Scorpion fan.

I bought two new XP90 for some Intel D875PBZ boards that I'm building for a client. Both are Northwood processors at stock speeds, so I don't expect a huge amount of heat. I have a 92x25 Panaflo 12H mounted on each. These generate a fair amount of fan noise, but this isn't a problem in a busy office...

I found the F13i broke my DS3 (not R) machine, so I backed down to F12 version. The board came with the F6 bios, then I tried F13i, then back to F12 while trying to get rid of high DPC latency. None of these bios fixed the DPC problem. I do not have have the DS4 board, so I cannot use (I think) that...

I have experience only with the Solo. As it is named, it comes without power supply. You can shop around and pick up a quality supply that meets your needs. I refuse to use Antec supplies because they are populated with Fuhjyyu capacitors of notoriously bad quality. See www.badcaps.net for details. ...

Do those still use Fuhjyyu caps? Yes, as far as I know. Antec and Bestec power supplies destroyed a number of my client systems, so I refuse to use them ever again. Antec has been bludgeoned by the service groups to stop using craps, but they refuse. This is a shame, since the design is good. No do...

I am having very good luck undervolting Panaflo fans in the Solo drive bay front mounting area. I have two 92mm 12H that are noisy are full voltage, but very quiet at 5v. Neil, I had the same thought. The PSU is too large to get through the optical bay. A pity, as this would be an easy fix. Antec installs the bay rails on the optical drive, which then just snap into place. Removing the HSF while in-case is nearly impossible. I use the Scythe Zipang for my builds, and...

Its a very slim amount of people that have to take an extra 10-20min to swap a PSU. This power supply cannot be changed out in 20 minutes. Antec Solo Difficult To Service Power Supply
Antec certainly did not design the Solo case for easy power supply replacement. I'm installing a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3 board with Zipang cooler installed and have to pull the mother board to change or install the power supply. There is no room to replace the power supply without first removing the mot...

IMO, the solution for passive cooled video cards is the Evercool Rocket V cooler. It occupies two PCI slots, and uses two 80x10 fans with Ever Lubicate bearings. This is important, because these fans have their axis in the vertical direction when mounted in a typical tower case. I understand vertica...

The TDP on your 915 is 95w. My P4 Prescott 530 is 84w, so I do understand your situation. These high TDP processors draw high power from somewhere, and that somewhere is the VRM. My Prescott runs the VRM temps way up due to power draw. You MUST consider VRM cooling when choosing a cooler. The tower ...

For a push-pin heat sink to fall loose in the case it would have to be a minimum of 3 pins free before it could move. With two pins or less unmounted, the contact with the CPU will separate, and it will over heat. Hopefully the board overtemp circuit will shut down the machine. I'm asking myself, wh...
