Think SOPA and PIPA were bad? This is worse.

It seems that our US Trade Representative Office, the Bush Administration, and the Obama Administration have secretly negotiated a trade agreement known by the acronym of ACTA (Anti-counterfeiting Trade Agreement). In addition to the governments who were in on the secret negotiations, an advisory co...

Re: U.S. Congress, idiots, and SOPA (House) & PIPA (Senate)

Illegally copying someone's data does not destroy anything, or harm lives in any way at all, it merely stops (possible) profits from going to the maker of said "digital property". Piracy is "Piracy", "Copyright Infringement" is a totally different matter and has never killed anyone or taken "their"...

U.S. Congress, idiots, and SOPA (House) & PIPA (Senate)

It is likely that most of you in the U.S. know about the Stop Internet Piracy Act (SOPA) that is advancing in the U.S. House of Representatives. The corresponding bill in the U.S. Senate is the PROTECT IP Act (PIPA). Of course I encourage you to contact your local Representatives and Senators to voi...

In that case I believe I'll go with the Swiftech and one of their micro reservoirs. Thank you very much for your informative advice! Don't forget the Petra's Gel Stuff, it works wonders and is delightfully squashy. There is a link in my post above. BTW, I am going to be undervolting my Swiftech MCP...

Re: Suggest a quiet pump?

To keep the cost reasonable, you could put the reservoir on/in the radiator, not the pump, and since you are going to need a radiator anyway, it might work out less expensive than putting a reservoir on the pump. Re: Suggest a quiet pump?

The Laing DDC Pro, which is also sold by Swiftech as the MCP 350 is known as a pretty quiet little pump. The Pro is the 12 Watt version of the pump. Beware of the 18 Watt DDC Ultra, also known as Swiftech MCP 355, they are much louder than the Pro, but look exactly the same. Lots of other companies,...

For what it may be worth, if you look around a bit at the AMD web site, they say that eyefinity 6 CAN support a mix of horizontal and vertical monitors. In fact they say that they estimate that there are hundreds of possible combinations of setups. The info was on the Eyefinity FAQ page, with all th...

Re: Wondering about Acoustipac for my Lian Li PC-A10A

Putting a layer of the 7mm, 3-layer Acoustipack Extra on the inside of the top panel did the trick. Now the only noise the computer makes is the sound of moving air. That probably can be reduced a bunch by removing the grille above the top-mounted exhaust fan.

How's the material/construction of the case. I went to go look at cases yesterday, and much prefer the quality of the Lian Li opposed to Antec. Please post more pictures, I'd love to see some. The quality of the A 10 is fantastic. You have to see one to appreciate it. I've only seen one of the newe...

Re: Lian Li A10 | i7 2600K | GTX570 build

That is a nice build Phantom. I'm glad you found the LL A10 case to be quiet, on par with the Antec cases, as I have a LL A10-A too, and have wondered how it compares acoustically with the Antec cases. Why did you cut the top fan from the frame to remove it? You can just unscrew it from above and pu...

Here is a US source for an inexpensive fan controller that will let you vary the voltage for the fan from 5V to 12V. This controller is $5.00 USD, but if you search around, you may be able to find something slightly less expensive too. http://www.frozencpu.com/products/13367/bus-260/Gelid_Solutions_...

Re: Wondering about Acoustipac for my Lian Li PC-A10A

How about the pump and hard drive? Do you think they could be part of the problem? Some people try to soft mount their pumps in order to cut down on noise. The same goes for the hard drive. Most of the Lian Li cases I`ve used were somewhat prone to increased vibrational noise and rubber grommets do...

Re: Wondering about Acoustipac for my Lian Li PC-A10A

Hi, Thanks for the reply, What you said makes sense. Oh, the top fan is most definitely responsible for the vibration, but is needed to pull air over the motherboard to keep the Northbridge and, to a lesser degree, the Southbridge cool. Even with the top fan, the chipset temps climb to the low 50 de...

Re: Diagnose the problem... MB or PSU?

That makes no sense. When the power supply is turned off by the button on the computer, it should NOT be outputting any 12V current. Period. Further, power on and power off do not effect the different voltage supplies separately. When the MOBO sends the power supply the signal to turn off, it is onl...

Re: Diagnose the problem... MB or PSU?

Since the picoPSU is supposed to be fully ATX compliant (I've looked up mini-box's web site), I assume that it will shut down all of the output voltages when you turn the computer off, except for the +5VSB (the one that stays alive so the MB can wake up when you push the power button, etc.). I'd gue...

Okay, sorry I've never seen a picopsu before. When you said that you unplugged the molex, SATA, etc, did you mean you unplugged them from the power supply? Does the picopsu respond to all the same control signals as a full-size psu? I mean, when you shut off the computer with the power button, shoul...

Re: Diagnose the problem... MB or PSU?

After looking carefully at the video, I noted that your 24-pin power supply connection looks unusual. Does the cable from your power supply have a standard 24-pin connector, or did you rig something up? If you are absolutely certain that the MB is getting the right power to the right connectors, and...

Wondering about Acoustipac for my Lian Li PC-A10A

I found out, by accident, that some weight on the top of my aluminum Lian Li case would stop vibrations in the top panel of the case. I had put my tape measure up there one day to get it out of the way, and noted an impressive reduction in the moaning/eerily droning noise of the vibration. After exp...

An afterthought: If you control the fan speed on your 8800 to get it quiet in 2D operation, and fan noise doesn't bother you when gaming, be sure to turn up the fan to 100% when you are gaming so you don't fry the 8800. And you probably can mount or place the Fan Mate outside the case. It may not be...
