That's what you call a police state. In theory for what it's trying to do, it's pretty good. however, if the state has such power they can easily start using it for anything else, such as censorship, or any amount of minor crimes that are commited on a daily basis without doing any harm. And eventua...

There is no logical defense of morality outside of religion, only fuzzy sentiments. Ok, where do you think these original moralities came from? Do you really believe that god reached down a big hand and gave the 10 commandments to moses on a mountain? Don't you think it's more likely that moses jus...

awesome. and they both fit next to each other? or will you need to clip some fins? I'm thinking maybe just order case, hsf and board. I have some old ram here, and probably also an old hard drive. I could toy around with some print and file server stuff.... that would be around 240 euros, leaving 76...

If people want to kill other people, they are going to find a way. In Northern Ireland for example, you used to hear about car bombings all the time. Why? Because it was made inconvenient to get a gun there. True, but this was undirected murder / terror. Ever try to stick someone up with a car bomb?

One guy got stabbed to death because he wouldnt hand over his hat. He was 19. :( Without knowing any details, I'm willing to bet this was an example how immigration makes scandinavian culture more lively. Dude, Erssa, you are so cool. You just type the most confrontational, controversial shiznit (w...

Illegal gun sales are impossible to stop. Then how come there are so few in the civilized world? Ever notice that only crazy africans and Americans go around shooting each other with M16s and semi-automatic guns? Gun laws seem to do something, just look at New York. Pity Guiliani isn't really runni...

Simple solution: Make gun sales illegal. The gun owners will continue to have their guns, the criminals who get caught have their weapons confiscated, and eventually the guns in circulation among criminals wear out. At this point forbid guns alltogether. What's stopping this? The NRA who makes milli...

500 GB laptop drives coming soon (feb + mar)!
Hello, I read this about a month ago, but didn't give it much though. Now with most 1TB drives sucking (no comments please, there's a different thread for that) I'm considering these. First off, the Hitachi 500GB 2.5 drive Due to hit in February it's a 3 platter 2.5" drive, which means it won't fit ...

Just goes to show that if more people had had guns there, they could have shot him earlier and thus saved lives. Well-trained, responsible men ought to be armed. To an extent I agree with you, although some people would probably coin me a leftist (American "liberal"), I would probably carry if I li...

wow, this morning at eight Prison Song by System of a down started playing at around 85dB.
If you watch the first 20 seconds of the link you can see how that would wake you up.... naught to sixty in 1 second
Now I just need to buy dual MFW-15s, then I can wake up anywhere in the house

Yep. I have to pass 3 out of 4. Lol, don't think my neighbours would appreciate 10 sirens, I am unfortunately in a semi-detached. Yep, I hit up starbucks as often as I can afford before university :D EDIT, just made myself a 18KHz sine wave in Audacity. That is possibly the most annoying thing I eve...

I have never failed to wake up to an alarm clock ever since I placed it on the other side of the room. So, when it goes off in the morning, I have to get up and walk to turn it off. I do that, and go back to bed. or sometimes I just leave it on, and after five minutes I get used to the noise and go...

Best way to schedule audio playback on a computer?
The efficiency of my alarm clock has lessened over the past months, and so I'm thinking of upgrading to something more powerful. I was thinking something along the lines of System of a Down at 95dB. What's the easiest way to make my computer start playing at a given time? I've got several mp3 progra...

And it is street legal -- it is classified as a motorcycle, because it has three wheels. I think the Toyota 1/X has a lot of potential, too -- 926 pounds is amazing. I wonder how it would be done in Germany then. Here you have to make an extra motorcycle license, costing about 1000€, in order to ...

Re: Super Efficient Cars [large pictures]
Hello, an all-electric this two person car gets a claimed 2 3 3 MPG !!! :o  Gallons of electrons? Sorry had to make that one. I think it's pretty cool looking. Far from my typical preferred aesthetics in cars, I would like to drive one just for the looks it would attract. Is i...

I almost always drive with the windows up.....in the summer the AC is always on. This gives me better gas mileage. The better airflow over the car, more than makes up for the compressor drag. iirc this is only true at highway speeds, say at less than ~25pmh it's more economical to roll the windows ...
