Alrighty, thanks for the hard facts Mike. Also, here's something new and interesting about the buzzing: there was none today, even after four hours of gaming(BF2142). I got onto my knees and crept up to the PSU to listen, but there was utter buzz-silence, only the fan noise was to be heard. But the...

These suggestions probably won't help a whole lot, but since your situation is clearly desperate, they can't hurt. Try moving your 80mm exhausts to the outside of the case. Moving them back from the CPU fan *might* reduce turbulence enough to allow them to operate more efficiently. I wouldn't hold o...

A claim of "no whine/buzz" will look more credible if the claimer specifies the system specs so the reader will have a better idea, this includes: - fans model - number of fans - voltage/rpm of fans - hdds - video card (or video card cooler if it was replaced) - distance to the unit for normal usag...

I tried an Alpine 7 on a Anthlon 4400 and it wasn't what I'd call quiet, or effective. Now, it was in an nvidia box with less than optimal airflow, but the box isn't used for anything other than watching/recording cable TV. At the quietest setting, it was still audible and gave me idle temps in the ...

I've read some threads about this, and though I'm no expert, I'm in the 'maybe a little but probably not enough to make a real difference very often' camp. But it got me thinking. Does anyone still run a system with a single HDD anymore? With the size of modern drives, and the relative low cost of t...

I've come to this recently for a couple of reasons. First is that computing used to be a hobby until I had one die suddenly and without warning. Because I needed one right away, I went out and bought an eMachines Celeron D 'off the shelf'. Much to my everlasting surprise, it ran almost 24/7 for over...

I just installed a 520 into a Sonata II case running a MSI P6N SLI Platinum and an C2D e6600. The first thing I noticed was how quiet this PSU is compared with the stock Antec. The 2nd thing I noticed was a barely audible, but steady high pitched ringing, which I assumed to be from the PSU, as it wa...

This card will be used in a desktop computer and not for an HTPC. It is connected to a Viewsonic VX2235wm LCD monitor. In the future, we will install a Blue-ray/HD-DVD driver on this computer. Regarding image quality, it means the quality of the image to play DVD's or TV. Currently, we have an Aver...

Here's something stupid, but completely free to try. Try tightening the screws that attach the PSU. I have a Sonata II with a stock PSU that developed a nasty buzz/hum after about 2 months. It was actually difficult to isolate the source of the noise, because it seemed to be coming from everywhere, ...

You probably got enough hardware to run it OK, but I'd seriously recommend 2 gigs of RAM. If 1 gig was the sweet spot in XP, 2 is it for Vista. Also be advised that Vista 32 will max out at 2 gigs, anyway. As for the value of Vista? Even though a series of circumstances has it on 3 of my 4 computers...

Re: Has anyone built a HTPC using a Nmedia 180?
I have one of these, but I'm afraid my answer will be incomplete. As for the basic noise level of this case? LOUD, but it is almost entirely from the PSU. Whether this is common to all of them, or luck of the draw, I don't know. I have the same Seasonic SSF on order, but until it gets here, I can on...
