Just joined and managed to get a few decent machines folding. One thing that has me quite disappointed is the large amount of communications errors and discarded WU's I keep seeing. It's not fun losing several k in points just from errors. I've "folded" quite a bit in the past for dnetc and never sa...

350W over how many machines? under full load, my opteron system is only consuming 110W at the wall, then again, I'm not really underclocking, just undervolting...i could probably do more. Over 3 machines, x2 3800, Northwood 2.66, A64 3200+. Jaganath - good point on using efficient cpu's. My x2 3800...

why not undervolt?
Already doing that on both my AM2 systems but it's not an option on my Northwood based Dell machines or my Socket-A machine. Even with all these machines undervolted, I'd still be consuming a good 350+ watts while folding and that's sure to make the room an oven.

I used to run dnetc a long time ago on all of my machines when I lived in an all bills paid apartment. Cooling, power consumption and noise weren't a factor back then. However, now that I am in a house, I find that my computer room is usually a few degrees warmer than the rest of the house with just...

Re: Temperature problem with X850XT

I had a X850XT PE in my Dell SC420 "server" for a few months and it ran ok despite having a 305W factory rated power supply. Aside from the PSU fan, there is 1 80mm exhaust fan which draws air over the CPU heatsink. Even in this poorly ventilated case, I never recall seeing a high temp warning from ...

... if you don't mind a little soldering: I wired up 2 of the Yate Loon fans into one header - I only took the rpm signal from one fan (one isn't connected), but connected the power wires in parallel. It seems to work well, so now the BIOS controls both case fans. For those who are too lazy to sold...

I have 2 pink goo 7200.10 250GB's and mirror the same thoughts as the others here - loud whooshing noise but not whiny. I found them to be still audible in a suspended scythe quiet drive and definitely noisier than the Spinpoint SP2514 that replaced it.

I'm using a hacked up custom heatsink on my socket 370 celeron 800 cooled by a single 120mm Nexus intake fan in my p180. Temps hover in the mid 40's but tend to rise up to 60C under load. I am using the smaller version of the Condor - the Raven for my X850XT PE and it seems to be working fine. My non gaming temps hover around 45C with the card underclocked and a 5V Nexus (inaudible) blowing towards the Raven. When I'm gaming, the card is set to default clock speeds and the fans turne...

Hi I have an XP2600+ (T-Bred) processor. Currently I use a Spire WhisperRock IV to cool it. However, it's too noisy. I'm extremely sensitive to noise and would prefer not running a fan at all if possible. Can you recommend me a quieter solution? The bus multiplier is locked so it would appear under...

I had the opportunity to test my buzzing S12-380 on a 4th system and heard no buzzing. This is an old Coppermine P3-800 which idles at 35W and maxes out at ~55W. In my other 3 systems, the buzzing was most pronounced in the 75W to 110W range.
