HDMI to DVI works perfectly; both are pretty much the same thing. Yeah, it just seems really weird that they made this expensive board (P5E-VM) and you can run an LCD with adapter, OR a HDTV, but not both. Haven't we moved into an era where the d-sub is obsolete yet? Esp on this mobo. really have n...

you won't see them inside NSK3480 anyway but you are right, the sleeved cables and the nice connectors are better, definitely.

if it were cheaper, i might have even opted for one of the modular psu's just to avoid the hustle with the all the wires.

ghettojiggalo is right - it's either some program indexing the drives all the time while system is in idle (vista does that too sometimes, btw); the screensaver is on while idle; or you might have gotten some virus or spyware in the system.

btw, Scythe makes those "Quiet Drive" enclosures for 2.5 drives as well.

http://www.directron.com/sqd251000.html

suspend the enclosure or rest it on a foam and you won't hear much noise from pretty much any 7200 rpm 2.5 drive.

don't know if there's enough place for it in mac mini though.

i can speak only from a personal experience, of course. most of the psu's will have the coil or some other elecrical noise to some degree. it seems that ea380 that comes with NSK3480 has a little less "buzz"; it might be simply better masked since there's no opening on top. i'd say - if you get NSK3...

not sure how helpful this is but i just discovered something interesting about my vx450. i ran ati tool' "3d thing", whatever the heck it's name, to load the 3870 (swapped sinks on it) and psu started making very annoying, very high-pitched noise that would go up and down in intensity. sort of like ...

the new wd 2.5" 320GB is both very quiet and fast enough to be a system drive. since your game is cs 1.6, the map-load speed won't be an issue (and that's the only thing i can think of when faster drive is really better in a gaming computer; once the map loads, it mostly runs from ram). keep in mind...

just swap the fan in it - that would be the cheapest solution. this nmb 80mm is relatively quiet: http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/nmb80ulqubr3.html might not be as "silent" as more popular options but it also costs 1/8 of the price. the 3-pin connector looks different than the usual but it fits a...

not sure how "silent" the recent iterations would be but in-win makes some very solid cases for about half the price of antec. there was some buzz about their micro-atx a while ago; i am talking about regular atx. "solid" is pretty much their selling point. thick steel is not too prone to vibrations...

it is surprising that asus cheapened out and didn't include a provision to actually control 3-pin fans.

don't you have any sort of fan control? like in m/b's bios settings? or you could use speedfan or some sort of hardware fan-control duhicky. at any rate, if you ran those fans at 12v, they would still be loud. about temps - since you don't say what cpu you have, i'll assume it's q6600... if i am rig...

i have not even taken the stock hs out of the box :P

still, i won't bet on it. it's a smaller (what is it, 70mm?) fan with high top rpm. if you want quiet, you might as well go that extra step and get an after-market hs.

microsoft is a great keyboard company. the only thing they ever got right and better than anyone else.

g15 and even latest apple keyboard can't even compare to 4000 - the keys feel cheap and wobbly and not as soft.

just try not to spill anything on the 4000 - doesn't take much to kill it :p

setting voltage manually seems to be counterproductive with this board. it should be able to adjust vcore by itself from whatever's its max voltage on load to about 1v-ish in low-power states. for that, cpu voltage does seem to have to be on auto, however. i can't tell you how to tweak your system i...

if it does, enable those in bios and set vcore to auto. if the cpu keeps running full speed when it suppose to idle, the configuration of the os probably needs readjusting as well.

there's a trick for that - prime small fft on both cores while running 3dmark (whichever version you have handy). that should push the system close to practical maximum output with the loads not jumping around too much. monitor kill-a-watt for 10-15 min and you'll get your max.
