If you could get it to boot into safe mode, uninstall the old drivers, reboot and then install the new drivers it might work. I have not had luck with it but what do you have to loose?

I was wondering about an e5200 on a ZOTAC NF630I-F-E in this case especially after an underclock and drop in voltage. I already have the above board with and e2200 in a Shuttle K45 case with a slim DVD drive but the Shuttle PS is loud and I don't think I can do a PICO for that kind of money. Overall...

At least here DDR2 and DDR3 cost about the same; upgrading a motherboard with support for either type of RAM will not have an effect on total price. How's the situation there? I have run Win7 on several systems (one AMD and one Intel) with similar specs. It runs great on an e2200 with 2 gigs of ram but moving up to 4 gigs in that machine on in the AMD HTPC makes an incredible difference. With the cheap price of DDR2 I would HIGHLY suggest upping RAM to 4 gigs.

I have an e5200 in my current office system and it is very easy to lightly overclock. Temp difference are minimal with the FSB bumped up from 200 to 215 or even 220. I am impressed with the difference between the e5200 and the e2200 in a machine at home.

I have a similar build in my office at the church. On the outside it looks like a cheap PC-clone from the same period as yours. I even hacked in a pair of USB ports to add to the beauty.

So I decided to play the game and dumped the PATA drives. I grabbed a 160gig SATA3.0 HD and the SATA DVD burner from the HTPC and gave it a whirl. I tweaked the bios and was on my way. Recovered the data from the PATA HD and put it on the new drive.

Is the problem solved?

While I did not mess much with Vista, I find the move from XP to Win7 quite natural after I got the "basics" down. In many ways the XP/Win7 transition reminds me of my transition from Windows to OSX 4 years ago.

I am really excited to put the media features to work on a HTPC.

Another variable considered. I pulled a LG PATA DVD burner out of my external enclosure and tried it. Same problem of not finding the device. I have a e4850 in a HTPC that will eventually do the task. My reading tells me that the e4850 will be fine so the e5050 should be golden.
