I was wondering about an e5200 on a ZOTAC NF630I-F-E in this case especially after an underclock and drop in voltage. I already have the above board with and e2200 in a Shuttle K45 case with a slim DVD drive but the Shuttle PS is loud and I don't think I can do a PICO for that kind of money. Overall...

At least here DDR2 and DDR3 cost about the same; upgrading a motherboard with support for either type of RAM will not have an effect on total price. How's the situation there? DDR2 is still cheaper although that's changing as DDR3 drops. If this was a DDR3 system I would stick with 4GB or less and ...

Ended Posting the same thing on the Zotac USA site: http://www.zotacusa.com/forum/index.php?act=idx Someone suggested that it is a driver issue. By using the VGA video instead of the DVI he was able to install Win7 w/out a problem on a similar board. Another poster said that they installed Win7 on t...

It was a clean install on one of two partitions on the drive. I have chopped the drive in half with OS on one half and data on the other. I have also tired deleting the partition for the OS and recreated it within Win7. This drive was running OSX in a hackintosh for the past two months without probl...

Budget goals? What are they doing with it? There are some nice m-itx boards out there. Find one with good onboard video, pair that with 2 gigs of ram, an e2200/e5200 intel processor and a WD 640 gig blue drive and call it done unless they need a DVD drive. I have a pair of K45 shuttles. One is runni...

I would also suggest the dual-core.CA_Steve wrote:The dual core. With the single core, your game will stutter when a background app or process wants some CPU time.
Found a CPU benchmark for the game.

After playing with a beta copy of Vista Ultimate and now Win7 Beta and Win7 RC, overall I like it. Installing was painless and took much less of my time than XP ever has on the same machine. Graphics are much improved and performance is great. A basic dual-core and 2 gigs of RAM makes for a VERY sna...

Another variable considered. I pulled a LG PATA DVD burner out of my external enclosure and tried it. Same problem of not finding the device. I tried all of the bios options that control PATA/SATA functionality. I cannot get it to boot from a Windows XP install or Ubuntu live CD in the DVD drive. PA...

Just looking at the CPUs, the E5200 runs much cooler: ~20W max load power and idle power <5W. Unfortunately LGA775 chipsets use a lot of power. I currently have a X2 5800+/740G and a E5200/G31. The X2 system can easily idle at much lower power than the E5200/G31 even when the X2 is overclocked. How...

Grab a temperature "baseline" with Speedfan found here:

Then follow xan_user's suggestions. My experience reminds that PS and HS fans are notoriously loud on older Dells.
