First, let me press a very important point: RAID is not a backup. And multiple HDD's in the same case are not a proper backup, either. Make sure some of your backups are off-site, and off-line (electricity wise). Otherwise you might lose your images - again. And ten let me clarify my original questi...

. And we're still talking cards with that crappy cooler - yes, it is crappy. The fan is audible in idle in auto mode, so I'm getting AC S1 Rev. 1 soon and will ditch the revolving/revolting contraption. Yeah, it sucks not to live in US or Japan hardware-wise ;) You might want to consider the "real"...

Couple points: Are you sure you want an AM2+ CPU/Board? AM3 would be more future proof. Also, do you really want a Quad Core? On an AM3 platform, you could go with the X3, which consumes "only" 95W and is thus easier to cool quietly. I would invest the saved money into a better case. The Rosewill yo...

The Cooler ist the OEM version of the Accelero L2 Pro. A review of a 4730 with this cooler can be found here . The results were pretty decent, but worse than the stock cooling on a 4770 (4730 draws about twice the power though). As currently, you're more like to find Jimmy Hoffa than HD 4770 on shel...

... heat "leaves" the system either by cold air entering (front intake) or hot air leaving (exhaust). No, you simply can't have either one, you must have both. Otherwise you'd get an ever increasing pressure and thermal gradient between inside and outside. Heat leaves the system by "attaching" itse...

Couple of things: A format is quite easy to recover because it changes the file system structure, but not the actual contents of the disk. 1 would be ideal, if possible, as it would leave me with an in-warranty card that can ramp fan speed with temperature. However, it doesn't seem to be practical at the sort of power dissipation of comparable cards. Err... what? 4770? Also, the AC Accelero L2 Pro for 4850/4770/... should (hopefully) ...

If you do not game at all, it might be advisable to throw out the graphics card, get an IGP and an efficient dual core and invest the saved money into a SSD. In general, this is what is done with CPU heatsink testing when the results need to be compared despite varying ambient temps. It's the "rise above ambient temp" that is most often used for comparisons, which forms the basis of "C temp rise per watt" ratios. What Larry has done here is just an appl...

Regarding the comparisons with the other systems (P183, Sileo, etc.) Are you really, really sure that you can simply subtract a whopping 6 degrees from the internal temperature results of the 902 just because the outside temperature was 6 degrees higher than at the "reference point"? That seems coun...

I own retty much the same system, except I am using 2x the Ram (fond of Ramdisks) and a HD4770. I draw about 230W under load (Fallout 3), so the power supply is more than powerful enough. I agree about splitting those tasks but I have to disagree about the CPU usage when downloading from newsgroups.
