Re: Attack of the Scythes
I bought 4 of the 1200RPM version, controlled by a Scythe Kaze Q fan controller at the lowest settings, which is around 5v, I still think they're way too loud. I'm going to replace them by the 800RPM version. Yeah, as shown in the roundup, the 1200RPM version only undervolts down to 720RPM @ 5v. Th...

Scythe Slipstream 120mm 800RPM fan set to ~400RPM (5v). Extremely smooth sounding and without imperfections. Even a quiet 5400RPM hard drive suspended with elastic would be more noticeable.

That's pretty high. Have you considered flipping the GPU fan so that it sucks air through the fins and blows it upwards? That way you won't have warm/hot air being blown downwards onto the CPU heatsink.zoob wrote:Under full load it reaches 85-88C which is acceptable to me.

Re: Heat issue after video card upgrade (Antec P180 case)
As a temporary solution, try playing a game with the side panel off, and perhaps also a fan blowing air onto the video card. Just stick it to the floor of the top chamber with blu-tack. That'll provide plenty of airflow to the card, and hopefully stop the crashes. Although I still find it hard to be...

Perhaps you could lay something heavy on top of the drive, to simulate your hand pressing down on it?

Perhaps replace the top fan with a quiet PWM model that doesn't tick/scrape/chug in a horizontal orientation?

Re: What is the smallest full-featured m-atx case?
Thanks for the suggestions guys, but a lot of the smaller cases use proprietary PSU form factors or have space restrictions that prevent the use of common tower CPU heatsinks. Or both. I'd really like to stick with standard parts as much as possible for compatibility. The Fractal Mini has great fea...

Typo on page 2: "54A (648W) on a single rail. We've come full circle from the madness of multiple 12V lines so popular a few years ago."
Should read "87A (1044W) on a single rail."
The length of the PSU should also be 190mm, not 160mm.
Thanks for the review.

Re: P183 fan setup and further silencing
What I wanted to ask: 1 Is cp-850 fan in 6 enough to cool hdds alone or does it need some other fan to help pull the air? If it does is it better to put it between psu and hdds or hdds and front door(5) Yes, it's enough to cool hard drives alone. 2 Is fan in 1 needed to push hot air out if you use ...

You could enclose each hard drive in silencing enclosures such as the Scythe Quiet Drive, Nexus Drive-A-Way or GUP Smart Drive. Re: HD6850 Passive by PowerColor!!!!!!
Crossfire 5770's with Accelero S1's is practical to do, as long as you've got some modest airflow blowing across the cards (eg. 500RPM fans). For my old setup (photo below), with the 3x Scythe Slipstream fans all at a silent 400RPM, temps in games got up to the 90c mark, and Furmark took the GPUs a ...

That one is very quiet once you manually set the fan speed to 30~35%. Mine was about as smooth and quiet as the 400RPM Scythe Slipstreams I had in the rig at the same time, quite impressive.skeeder wrote:thoughts on the frozen cooler?

Re: Silent 120mm exhaust needed
How about the 800RPM version of the Scythe Slipstream? At 5v it spins at ~400RPM. I'm using three of them in my rig (i5 2500K, HD6850 w/ Accelero S1, P182), although I've removed all dust filters and cut out fan grills to offset the reduced airflow. 800RPM is fast enough to move hot air from the cas...
