Cool, quiet extra storage, <7200rpm, >300gb
I use a raptor as system disc. As storage one samsung spinpoint T and one samsung HA250, both spinning around 5400 rpms. That makes them quiet and above all cool. The samsungs hang there without any cooling at all. My case is full, there's no way I can squeeze in a drive with dedicated cooling. Now ...

I have stated that I would not have started a "war on terror" in the middle-east. My response to the 9-11 attack would have been consentrated on internal security measures, much differently from what Bush is doing. But Bush is running things. And to set things straight....from the very start I was ...

How to check CPU temp without exiting to BIOS?
I have a Gigabyte GA-K8NF-9-RH socket 939 board. No tool such as ASUS probe came with the box. Searched SPCR but caught no fish. Anybody, please?

I know I recommended the Logitech Bluetooth Desktop MX5000 because the hardware is excellent but I have to make amends. Reason is the required software from Logitech is awful. Lots of bugs, un-stable, annoying icons everywhere impossible to remove, and makes computer start slow (think Norton). Not t...

How do I un-install the Q&Q drivers? It's the very same drivers that run the CPU? Anywhoo... are you married, jaganath? I tried RMClock and, lo and behold, I can play chess without the pieces lagging my mouse movements! Perhaps this was enough to fix my machine? Too early to call it a win yet. But a...

Damnit, I checked and it seems I never did get rid of the C&C driver after all. Tried listening to some music and it still exhibited small hang-ups, with the sound on repeat for half a second or so now and then. Checking CPU with AMD speed program reveals it's still running C&C. And yes, the chess i...

C&Q with X2 CPU causing problems, WinXP SP2
Bought a new computer recently, installed and updated WinXP, SP2. Motherboard supports (and bundled cd with) cool&quiet! so of course I used it. But I experienced some weird problems. Exampli gratia: when I play chess on ICC and move the pieces fast the jump and lag a bit. This with a program runnin...

Just like SPCR has found out in its reviews testing heatsinks, I found that little airflow cools much better than just passive. Turning off the fans overheats my machine. About what's toughest to silence, my central point learned is that it's the very same stuff as in an air cooled rig. Save a very ...

I’m curious what w/c set up do you have? I have re-built my w/c machine countless times. I turned so sick of managing everything that now, after four years of enthusiastic experimenting, I've bought a new computer, completely air-cooled. The old computer is an AMD 2600+, Radeon 9800, Seagate Supe...

A single rad will cool non-overclocked very well and very quietly which is what most beginners may be looking for. This is BS. Such a system would both cost and sound more than air cooling. I have tried this and I have tried the alternatives, more than 5 different air solutions and countless config...

I did some research and just found out that I'm a distant descendant of Nostradamus. I now predict 2007 to be the year when good GPU coolers shall come fourth and also the year when the GPU manufacturers follow suit and present new cards with lower power dissipation. I saw it my tea this morning. Yo...

Re: How to mount Laing DDC to dampen noise?
How about spring mounting? gel pads? rubber? Only thing good enough is to hang the pump in soft silicon cords or something similar, letting it touch nothing and use soft tubing at inlet / outlet. In the case of a DDC, you have more to worry about. The air-borne noise is horrible and hard to dampen....

Aircooling is getting really close to the limits of what it can do (quietly at least)...you really can't get much bigger/heavier than they are now. Preach it brother! Right on the money. And that was written in october 2004, several degrees before the big heatpipe towers arrived in style. If you as...

It's very tough to isolate the noise from a DDC. Since the frequencies are not as high as those coming from HDDs you need really heavy materials. Wether my pumps are representative or not I don't know, but my DDC is not at all as quiet as my 1048 . I cast my DDC into a block of cement and sheets of ...

On my old w/c machine I glued alu profiles on to copper plates which were glued to the back, bottom and top of a g-Tower aly case. Good point. The 4412s on my rads speed around 370 rpm. The Nexus fans in the air computer vary between 80 and about 300 rpm when I surf the internet. Gaming spins them up but then I don't care really. I live in downtown Stockholm and wouldn't call my apartment especially noisy or quiet. To me it's v...
