Aftermarket cooler or new card?
G'day :) I'm sort of new here, and rather new to silencing, and I've recently ordered an Antec Solo + 2 92mm Nexus fans, which I'm still waiting for. However, before I could really get a bit of the potential out of the Solo, I'd have to do something about my Sapphire X1600XT. It has a 40mm whiner on...

To go to the absolute source of the problem: Why do you want a 100% custom case? If it's just for the coolness of having an entirely one-of case (which I doubt it will be even from special companies that custom build it for you) then I guess that's that. But if you want performance, you'll probably ...

Slightly against cases with fans of sizes over 120mm, there's no replacing them. You may find some 140mm fans, but 200mm, I strongly doubt it. So if you'd think the 200mm is too loud, you can undervolt it, but if you just think the sound to airflow rate sucks, there's nothing to it but to shut it do...

I was running the most recent version like two weeks ago. I suppose I should've checked again before posting, but I didn't think they'd suddenly support a motherboard, about a year after it's release. Anyway, I believe I have a 3-pin CPU fan, so that's probably not going to work. Eitherway, I'll hav...

Physical contact is not necessary for an ESD event; if you're going to go totally overboard with this, you should consider arc discharge as well. If you're going to go that far with it, you can also look at the distance between the hard drive and make sure theres a wire leading to the case, not con...

Motherboard capable of changing fanspeeds?
Hey there guys. Since somewhere summer 2006, I've been the proud owner of a Gigabyte GA-M57SLI-S4, and I've got two 80mm CoolerMaster Ultra Silent fans plugged into it, but they're not going at the speed I'd like them to. Now, I hear Speedfan is quite apt at this kind of thing, but the problem is, i...

Well, in general, high-end (alright, anything that isn't meant for office work) VGA cards are noisy buggers, with the exception of fanless ones, of course. Before buying an aftermarket cooler though, you could perhaps try stopping the fan of the VGA card for just a bit and then letting it go again, ...

Don't quote me on this, but wouldn't extending it too far create too large a gap between the south bridge and the GFX card, having as effect that it would drag the clock speed of information transfer down by miles, limiting the bandwidth of the PCIe slot? I may be wrong in this though. It may be tha...

I'm newer than you, but if there's anything I've learned so far by reading a lot of SPCR's (and other websites) articles so far it's that quality beats quantity. The right fan in the right place, that's what its about. When I first got my own PC I had 7 fans in it, "The more the merrier, I like cool...
