there must be a reason that you aren't looking at the winner of that fan shootout, the ty-140... perhaps they are too expensive to import, because they aren't available in italy?

Re: P183 HDD cage fan also in P180 Mini?

there may not be enough room between the video cards and the hdd cage to mount a fan.

check out the scythe kama stay, it allows you to mount fans in all kinds of places.

if picture quality matters, you want plasma over any kind of lcd, at least for consumer-grade use.

So, can I do better than P183? I've been considering FT02 but I think it will be too loud for me and Fractal Design R2 but I'm afraid it'll be too flimsy after P182. read the p183 vs. ft02 thread further down the page: http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=60221 i ended up movin...

sound cards don't put out nearly enough power to drive speakers, you need an amplifier between the speakers and the sound card.

Re: P180B P5WDH Cooling Southbridge Ideas?

unfortunately you can't control the individual core temps... i lapped my i7-920 pretty hard, and i still have a spread of nearly 10 degrees sometimes.

you can calibrate the realtemp software on the high end, which is supposed to make up some of those differences, but i haven't seen it yet.

Re: P180B P5WDH Cooling Southbridge Ideas?

you'll get rid of that mb long before the southbridge dies, but you could always try replacing the thermal paste in the meantime, see if it makes a difference.

this will add some air over that chip:

Re: Can't decide between P183 and Fortress 2, advice?

p183 would be quieter for an htpc, but it's still big for a microatx mb. i have the video cards screwed into the backplane in that pic, but i had to really force 'em in there, the soundcard shows where the screw hole alignment is really at... they could have made the vent hole longer, so that it mat...

what i do is run a vacuum cleaner over the filters, when the floor is getting vacuumed... i used to remove 'em for cleaning, but it got to be too big of a hassle.

not sure what tab on the side panels could get broken, maybe i've just been lucky.

Re: X-460 or X-650 ?

the center fan in the power supply compartment of the p182 will help cool whatever power supply you put in there, but i would try taping off all of the case ventilation holes around the power supply, so that the air gets forced through the power supply, instead of around it. you don't want to go com...

Re: HR-02 and Intel DX58SO boot problems

pull everything out of the case, and hook up all of the parts on a table... that way you eliminate the case as a factor; i would first check the case standoff locations, to make sure that you don't have a standoff in the wrong place, shorting out the mb. i think that dual-channel mode on that mb mea...

Re: 140 mm fan: Noiseblocker PK-2 or Noctua NF-P14-FLX

I recommend against the TY140.... If I use the fan with air blowing at 90 degrees or above, then the fan makes a very annoying click / scratching sound. This sound gets worse as the degrees increase. Also it gets worse as the speed is reduced. It is really too bad that the problem starts at 90 degr...

Re: HDD Reliability - Best Buys? Musts to Avoid?

pick the the most reliable hard drives the same way that the manufacturers do: length of warranty.

ask yourself; do wd, seagate, etc., base their hard drive warranties on how many platters the drive has? i can't say for sure, but i'd guess not, so why ignore what they are doing with warranties.

Re: Pro Tools Home Recording PC Build Suggestions

The reason the O.C. guides say 'disable it! it causes instability' is not because the spread spectrum clock generation causes instability, but because the overclocking removes all of the buffer you have in clock/memory timings - add a little variability to the clock edges, and phoomp, you are locke...

the three 180mm fans might indeed be too noisy, as tim stated, it's overkill for what you needed, and whatever noise is inside the case gets vented out the top, instead of the back... you could try unplugging the 120mm fan, see if that makes it any quieter. you could also unplug one or two of the bi...
