A room ambient of 30c-35c is a much more real life measurement to me than the winter temp of 20c. Time to move, methinks. Seriously, the highest temp ever recorded in the downstairs lab, not airconditioned, with a couple windows open, was around 27~28C. I have moved recently, my summer used t...

Download and setup speedfan, and put togther a manual CnQ.

Your having problems because even though [email protected] is ok, your running [email protected] during CnQ which your CPU doesnt seem to be able to handle.

CnQ just drops the multipler and the voltage, it doesnt touch the HTT.

MikeC, Thanks for the response, and I understand the way testing is done and the time and effort it requires. You have the best powersupply reviews on the web by the way. I guess that I always see all the reviews on the web done at 20-25c ambients which is nice, but doesnt reflect real life (in summ...

This is how the tester currently functions (kind of). Heat from the load resistors are exhausted into the tester. This mimics the thermal conditions in a real-world ATX tower, as intake temperature increases with load. IMHO, it would be silly to test a power supply at a constant temperature like yo...

In future reviews is there any chance of getting noise and efficiency levels at different ambient temperatures, say 20c, 25c, 30c, 35c so we can see how Power Supply’s act outside of an air conditioned office?

if you have a system with ambient internal temps above 40c then you have some major issue's. personally my case temps are usually around 30-35c at the most in the summer time. That all depends on where you live. Where I am gets 35-40c shade temperature in summer, cooling down to 20-30c at night. Ob...

Re: Cool, low power, underclocked system. Is my idea workabl

So, first of all, does this sound workable at all? I've heard that Semptron 64's don't have a locked multiplier (or it can be unlocked) and thus underclocked. You need a Sempron 3000+ or higher to get CnQ which will get you the unlocked mulitplier. The 90nm semprons use a lot less power than the so...

Yeah sure, i think it would work. Does anyone have any information of how much heat the GF2 put out? I bet it is less than the GF4MX anyways, which I've seen cooled by really tiny heatsinks. More heat easy, I have a GF2 Ultra with the standard HS+Fan, the Heatsink is hot to touch. The GF4MX card ar...

The Sempron 64 3000+ (Palermo @ 90nm) easy.

Is your current Sempron 90nm? Is so before your spend more money try undervolting your current CPU? There is a decent chance you could get down to 1.1v since its only 1.6ghz

I'm running a Passive 9550 256mb with 2xDVI+TV in my shuttle. It was the cheepeast ($100 Aus) dual dvi card I could fine. The problem is I think it was a test run by Palit into the Asian market as the card doesnt exist on their english website. It runs my 2x2005FPW fine however.

I voted retail since OEM is rare to non existant in Australia.

However AMD is getting rid of the OEM market, you cant make new orders so people are just clearing old stock. Soon no one will have a choice.

I'm running Geil UltraX @2.8v and it came with a temperature sticker on the side. Currently the lowest band (45c) is lightly coloured. The highest band is 60c and the ram is rated up to 2.95v so I assume that anything below 55c is ok without active cooling (assuming the ram is good in the first plac...

I voted none, my desktop has 50+ icons but they are all hidden, the start bar is folded down and I use keyboard shortcuts to launch my apps.

So basically my desktop is 3360x1050 of black (2x2005FPW).

Any of the ATI cards are easily underclockable. Even at stock speeds (200/200) the tiny passive heatsink (stock) on my 9550 doesnt seem to get above ambient using the finger method for testing temps. Although if you having problems with a 9600 I dont know if you will get the same problems with the 9...

Um. . . the 9550 isn't the AGP version of the X550. The 'X' series is based on a new series of GPUs. The '9' series is the previous series of graphics chips from ATI (i.e. 9600, 9550, 9800, 9800Pro). Most of the X Series of chips are PCIe only, although there are some offered in AGP. The 9550, 9600...
