I'm sorry, I didn't realise the term 'undervolt' meant you had to do it a specific way. As far as I knew, 'undervolting' was when you put the VOLTS UNDER stock settings. I didnt realise it was only undervolting if it was done through the bios. I apologise for any confusion this might have caused :ro...

I dont know about the specific grill on that case, but I do know that even an extremely wide-spaced wire fan cover blocks significant amounts of airflow. even the open-cell 2mm filter in the front bezel of my Xpider was choking airflow. One of the great advantages to having a quiet system, is that e...

Underclocking 2D

I just dropped my 5900Ultra from 300mhz to 75mhz in 2D with no ill effects.

With passive cooling, that translated to about a 5C drop.

Not too shabby for something that cost precisely nothing.

I'm pretty sure that my DM10 wouldnt reach 58.4 dB if it caught fire and the platters fell out while spinning.

Where did they take those readings, under a freeway overpass?

My old case had a duct, but it let too much noise out, and really my temps of 55C under load isn't going to cause any damage.

I can confirm that the K8V stops the CPU fan when temp drops low enough - mine is stopped right now.

Still, if you look at a graph of my CPU temp, it's a long sinewave. I'd rather have a steady low RPM than a constant cycle of speedups and slowdowns, it's a lot harder to tune that out.

You might want to double check that.

Any board that supports CnQ, by definition, supports undervolting.

Let me put it this way: I had a perfectly good Maxtor drive that refused to work after I ran it at an angle for 30 minutes. Make SURE it is perpendicular!!! I really doubt that was because of the angle unless 1. You moved it while it was running or 2. The drive was +10 years old I've run HDs on ang...

Any angle is fine. Look at iPods, laptops, etc FDB does make a difference. The reason you didnt used to be able to mount at an angle was because the bearing would wear unevenly, that's not a problem anymore. Older HDs had to be placed flat and right-side up because the heads were programmed with the...

Are you kidding? That's one of AMD's major marketing devices for the A64, Cool n Quiet.

My Athlon 64 is currently passively cooled at .950V, if system demand rises, it'll bump itself up and the fan will kick in.

Finally swapped out the fan in my Antec TP 430

What an improvement. I'd be running it with the standard 92mm Antec fan, and an 80mm Stealth both at 7v for months. I just took out both those fans, replaced them with a single 92mm Nexus at 7v and removed all the grills. The breeze coming out the back is at least as strong as it was before, and it'...

And I just got my Xpider case from FrontierPC

Cost me $60

They've only got 2 left though.

I'm running a Zalman dual heatpipe fanless cooler on my 5900Ultra (one of the hottest cards out there) and it's just spiffy. I usually run a 70mm fan at 5v just to keep a slight breeze over the bottom edge, but apart from that... I think having two many exit-paths takes away from overall performance...

Those fluctuating temperatures are generally bad, especially for something with moving parts like an HD.

I'd recommend trying out different fan speeds and finding out at what point the drive levels off at a decent temp.
