Well Intel just can't go and decree that these slower Ghz, mobile processors are the right path to follow now -- they would lose all credibility. They've been pursuing the "higher Ghz the better" marketing campaign for virtually their entire existence. Now that they're at a dead-end with that, they'...

Maybe you can't, but I can fairly easilly see the heatpipe is not connected to anything else than the tops of all the thin fins and the one fat fin. This is a heatpipe we are talking about, not a vapor chamber. You can see the whole heatpipe from end to end. It looks like on the right side of the p...

Well, I am assuming that the heatpipe is connected to the base of the heatsink. It isn't visible in this photo, though, but we really can't see it very well. I can't believe that a top-notch HS manufacturer like Zalman would have heatpipes that connect only to the fins!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but if the heatpipes carry the heat to the heat dissipators, i.e. the thin fins with high surface area, then this looks like a really nice design.

I just read the reviews at Amazon and am a bit surprised at the near-universal hatred for this drive. The drive being reviewed is the external USB version, so maybe there aren't the same problems with the internal drives. I know that my 400GB does not get excessively hot, at least on the top and sid...

I've had my 400GB 7200.8 for about 6 weeks now and have not had any problems. Sure, it not the quietest drive around, but it certainly no whiny screamer like the old bearing drives. It's only slightly louder than a Nexus 92mm fan at 12V - some whooshing but overall not too bad. I don't hear the seek...

First of all, many Abit motherboards report temps anywhere from 7-12C TOO HIGH. So, your CPU is probably not as hot as being reported. A more recent BIOS may correct this. It makes sense in your case, because a load temp for 3.0 Prescott of 60C with a Zalman at lowest speed sounds about right. That ...

I, too, was hesitant to mod the closed corners of my Globe 120mm case fan. I decided to just go ahead and do it because I really wanted to use it as an exhaust for my SLK3700BQE. Anyway, I purchased a $5 coping saw at Home Depot and it was a piece of cake to remove the corners. Took all of 10 minute...

Well, I couldn't answer the questions in time - different time zone... Rtsai answered about the same as I would. IMO the side panel isn't sloppy fit, but the side vents do let noise out, so you have to make sure the inner components aren't too noisy. The lower vent does however help in cooling the ...

The stock 3700 PS is not at all quiet when it ramps up under load. I replaced mine with a Super Tornado 300 and couldn't be happier. The stock 120mm fan is not bad at all, but you can't use a Fanmate with it since it only has a 4-pin molex connector.

There are HSF fans that have the equal or better cooling capacity and are quieter. To stuff such a HSF in a Prescott based computer would require a fan mounting bracket, and some very fancy duct work. I think this can be done but it would likely result in a headache. It would be nice if I were bein...

Are you saying that you will eventually run the CPU passive, without a fan mounted on it? From what I've read here, this will not be possible with a 3.4Ghz Prescott P4. But it sounds like you are going to carefully design your airflow, so I'd be very curious how it all turns out. One question, thou...

I agree that the Zalman at 5v is a fantastic HSF. The issue is that the XP-90 can be made quieter at an equal or better level of cooling (paired with the proper fan, of course). It's still pretty close, but the Zalman stock fan at 5v is still not as quiet as say, a Nexus 92mm at 9v or even 12v. That...

I agree with The Instigator -- it has to be caused by the mating surfaces between the CPU and XP-90. I replaced my Zalman with an XP-90 and have gotten temperature decreases of about 2-3C at idle and 5-6C at load. There's no other way to explain a 15C increase with this exchange.

You may be able to help the situation by carefully controlling the airflow. Block and tape over any holes behind the front bezel except for the front intake area. My setup is almost identical to yours and my CPU temp doesn't go down if I take off the side cover.
