Cmcquisition's got a very good suggestion there. As for soldering, you may just want to plain get a new tip. Tips wear out and it happens. Heh...I figured it would have been clear from the posts that this tip has NOT been worn out. :D This is the 2nd time I've used this thing. For a while he stripp...

Re: Antec Sonata II: A Brief Review
From the pics, I don't understand the point of the duct. Is it exhausting air? That would make sense, since it's centered right over the CPU. But if so, then isn't the exhaust duct opening directly over the HSF, which is pulling air down? So you have the air being pulled in two directions? If the du...

Check out the link in my sig. There is an easier way to do that and it won't involve burning anything:) Gosh darnit...I was just getting mentally prepared to put my life and skin into jeopardy again, and you go and give a perfectly simple alternative. Now, do I wimp out and go with the wonderfully ...

To use your diagram as an example:... 1: Connect the multimeter black wire to the wire that goes straight from one molex to the other... Ooooooooooooo....I get it. Stupid me. I thought you meant check the diode individually, not connected to any circuit at all. now it makes sense...just work my way...

Also, I believe that someone mentioned this either several pages back or on another forum, but Techonweb only lists two fans in the case, while most other retailers list three. I'm not sure what's going on there, but it's something to consider... it would suck if they somehow pulled out that 38mm b...

Oh yeah, breadboard! That's the word I was looking for! Been too long, getting too old :( Thanks for refreshing my memory :-) Heh..you know, of the two names given to it....breadboard, or prototyping board...ONE of them makes sense to me. :? Well, all I can say is thank GOD for cheap electronics. B...

1: Before you begin to solder.. make sure your soldering iron is fully hot... (to lessen the 'contact time' ) Hmmm...well, I have no particular method to know. The iron contains a light to indicate it's on, but that's about it. Contact time might certainly be an issue...constantly I had to hold the...

I'm not experienced with soldering either (I'm a software engineer :-) ). Hahah..I have the same affliction. I did a google on "how to solder", and it came up with a reasonably informative site....which included the alligator clip idea. I remember having a prototyping board (we called it a br...

Did Diodes Die?
So I stopped by radio shack, and bought 6 of the diodes that are supposed to drop the voltage by about .75 V each. I then soldered 4 of them inbetween the 12V connection and the fan, and I also inserted a switch and soldered 2 more of them serially. So here's the idea: At one switch setting, there w...

Nice pics. Well, it appears the "specially designed" smart power is indeed the 2 fan one, not some 1 fan hybrid mutant thing. Good to see. I don't see the washable filter in those pics. Does the filter cover all of the intake area on the front? And how easily removeable is it? One thing I'm disappoi...

Re: Naming Devices in SpeedFan?
I've got speedfan and when i see other peoples screenshots they have the CPU labeled as CPU and hard drive as Samsung or similar. On mine its just Temp3 and HD0. How can i label the devices or can't I? Thanks If you click configure, and then on each tab (temp, speed, etc) there is a list of things ...

First review of P-180 on Antec site!
Linked from the Antec webpage is the first official review of the P-180. It's a little short...not as indepth as we come to expect here at SPCR, but I think you'll get a lot of questions answered none-the-less.
Enjoy!
Enjoy!

On the antec website is said that its a 2 fan PSU, but one is designed to turn on/off at specified temps to keep the noise down. So its a 2 fan unit, but works on 1 fan until you start sucking up the wattage. Interesting theory on why the specs for the Sonata II says: 1 450 Watt single fan SmartPow...

I'm curious if they're actually shipping the P180 with only 2 fans. There's definitely 3 fans in the one I got. You can search for my thread with links to pictures. Running the CPU at 52 Celsius is fine. Really, anything up to 70 degrees (on-die temp) is fine, IMO. Your CPU doesn't care, so why should you. You should probably check the actual thermal specs for your processor. I believe there is a post somewhere here in SPCR about that...probably in the CPU coo...
