Maybe the Zotac BIOS has a bad/duplicated entry for the
voltage for the 1.60 GHz setting??

2.93GHz results are with or without stress test? It has the same numbers as 1.60GHz. Yes, all except the idle are with the stress test. Odd, isn't it? I ran the test more than once, and saw the numbers first at 1.60 GHz, then saw them dip at 2.13, and then rise again at 2.93. I noticed it first yes...

Zotac 9300 / Intel e7500 undervolting anomaly
I just put together a new system, based on the Zotac 9300-I-E miniITX motherboard, with an e7500 Intel processor installed. I was doing some stress testing (Mersenne primes stress test) and watching the power draw with a Kill-A-Watt meter, both with default voltage and the maximum hardware undervolt...

Cutting tools?
Hello ... I've discovered this thread, and might be choosing this case. I was wondering how you cut the hole in the case sheeting so cleanly. I'd end up with a horrid sharp mess.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Wow!
I love what you've done here. I'm thinking of a Zotac 9300 build in the next few months, and had been thinking of an SG05/06 case, but this is awfully tempting. One drawback ... I've never worked with acrylic before. How do the different acrylic pieces join??

tower cooler suggestion
As usual, a few silent diehards may consider replacing the provided PSU with a silent picoPSU and an external AC/DC power brick. This not only eliminates the noise of the power supply fan, it also frees up the space above the CPU so that one of the huge tower heatsinks could be used (as long as it ...

Hmm. The zotac board "supports" DDR2 667 or 800 memory, whatever that means. I'm curious why you recommend DDR2 1066 memory -- an insurance policy for good memory performance? Overclocking? Thanks!RoGuE wrote:FYI This is the memory you want

silent dimming?
I noted with great interest the low power consumption of
the monitor. Were you able to lower the brightness without
creating noise? My Viewsonic VG2030wm squeals hideously
if I take the brightness below 96%. I could save ~10 watts at
75% brightness but that's just impossible.

Alternatively, have a look at the Silverstone Sugo-05. Replace the included power supply with a picoPSU and you should have some options from the Recommended CPU Heatsink section of the main site that could fit in that case. A Ninja Mini should be a good option. Hmmm. An SG05 with a good 120mm fan ...

I agree ... great article on this mini-ITX compared to the others I've found. I'm thinking that in a larger mini-ITX case (Sugo SG05?) with a picoPSU (no power supply inside the case) you could possibly put one of several substantial heat sinks in there. In another thread, a poster put this board in...

24" iMac
Just a quick note -- the new version of the 24" iMac is $1500
with 4 GB of DDR3 RAM and 2.93 GHz CPU.
The one my wife got 5 months ago was $1800 with 2GB of DDR2.

I'm a member of the smaller-is-better crowd. No need for a built-in optical drive (don't use it that often, so use an eSATA or USB external drive). 3 x 2.5" drive spots (1 SSD for boot/applications and 2 HDD in RAID 1 for my stuff), and you can use the power supply area for some of that 'cause I'll ...

slim vs regular optical drive -- power consumption?
Hi,
It's treated as common knowledge that the slimline/laptop
DVD/CD drives (read/write) use less power than the regular
desktop versions, but I haven't come across any hard numbers.
Any pointers?
Thanks!

Once I activated the CD drive while at the 90 watt level and it momentarily spiked at 103 watts. I have never heard the fan turn on....

HDDs in PSU box
Well, I got around to putting the hard drives into a gutted ATX PSU, as suggested. I didn't have the energy to re-work the elastic mount, so I just plopped the existing wood+elastic frame inside the PSU cage, and added an 80mm fan connected to a Zalman fanmate. The HDDs now run 1°C to 2°C cooler. ...
