To wait or not to wait? 8800 GTX or not?
Hello all. I searched the forums and found nothing on the question I asked, so I thought I'd post it. I am really aching for a new video card. I wanted to get the XFX 8800 GTX XXX (I have water cooling so noise is very low in my case) but I'm not sure about purchasing one now that it's going on eigh...

Not sure exactly what you mean... but it sort of sounds like you are "all wet" ;) I was (and still am I'd say) a complete newb to watercooling. I purchased for my first set a Storm R2, Maze4GPU, MasterKleer 7/16" tubing, a PA160, and a MCW655 pump. I used to run the pump full blast and had Nexus fan...

Ok, I will try your new suggestions. I am running 4 1GB sticks. I will try 2 and see what it does. I am not sure if my NB is hot. It runs stable at 400 MHz FSB with x8 multi and it seems fine... but I'm sure if I update the TIM it will run better. I will try the 105 to 115 on the PCI E frequency. I ...

Why didn't you buy an E6600? Well, that was the first choice I had. But, in August, all they had available was the E6700. The E6600s didn't come in for about another half a month... and I wanted a new CPU! :) Besides, the E6700 was higher clocked, so I figured that even if I ran stock, I'd have a v...

Ah... ok that makes more sense on the temps. I'm reporting TAT temperatures. When I do 100% on both cores on my current overclock, I reach around 60-65C load. As previously stated, I'm using AS5 on the CPU/GPU. I have not replaced any of the TIM on any of the other chips because: a) I'm leery of mes...

Ok, question... why do you think I have memory problems? I can get the board to 400x8 1:1 just fine... meaning my memory is running at its advertised speed...??? Also, when I leave the memory timings alone, I still get lockups. Meaning if I have them at their SPD instead of my manual settings, and e...

What did you mean by the guide you left? I didn't see you leave a link anywhere so I'm a bit confused. Secondly, and weirder, even when I booted up into Windows with the original settings I had before, except at 1.6V on the core, the machine still locked up. I couldn't get a temp reading because it ...

cmthomson, Thank you very much for your help. I'm leery of running 1.6V on the CPU... this *is* after all a $500 chip... ;) I might try it for a little bit. My temps are a little high right now for my comfort, being 50C (playing BF2 with high overclock on my vid card) and idle at 40-44C. Is this too...

I'm not sure of the date code, and I'll have to either take the Storm off or wait until I get back to school to get it for you. I'll probably just take the block off here in the next day or so. However, since I got my CPU within the first month of shipping (I got it around the middle of August) I as...

Help me OC my E6700 (I'm running WC so I'm silent ;) )
Ok, I know this is a weird topic to be posting in a SilentPCReview forum, but I couldn't find another one dedicated to this. I'm trying to overclock, but silently, so I think this still applies here! :) I'm trying to overclock my E6700 chip. Currently, I run a 500W S12, a Gigabyte DQ6 motherboard, a...

MikeC, others, Something seems very wrong about that number. If you look at maximum power draw of 5VSB, you get 2-3 amps (depending on PSU). That's a maximum of 15W extra power. AZBrandon, your power consumption climbs by almost 11 times!!! That's way over the two-times theoretical increase. What is...

In my opinion, I think that this would cause mold problems with any extra water that didn't evaporate or come out of the blocks. Humidity is a huge factor in mold production, as well as dark places. A wet, closed loop with a waterblock is the perfect place for that. I'd personally err on the side of...

I'm new to watercooling, but if I were doing what you will be doing, I'd definately flush the system with a lot of distilled water, then make sure it's dry before I store it anywhere. Don't need mold building up in storage! Also make sure you do something small (like wrap in a towel) to prevent dust...

Out of mere curiosity, how did they hold on to the drive? My Silverstone case actually had small metel tabs that fit into the screw holes. They were tight enough to prevent any kind of movement of the rail, but weren't so tight that they destroyed the threads of the drive. Kind of an ingenious way ...

I personally would be very careful with the VF700CU at 5V on that card, especially if you are going to be OCing. I attempted to use it on my ATIX850GTO^2 with the BIOS mod to flash it to 16 pipes, and tried to overclock to get a general X850 XT PE speeds, and the cooler could barely handle it at ful...

Yes, you do need to screw these rails to the DVD drive. Otherwise there is no way for the rails to hold onto the drive. Make sure you also use the right rails and screws. There are two smaller rails that are meant for the floppy drive only. These will not work for the CD/DVD drives. Also, make sure ...

I have a Seasonic S12 500. I mounted it with the fan down for four reasons. 1) The wires are more towards the opening and therefore "longer" mounted this way. 2) Cold air settles at the bottom... therefore putting the fan at the bottom should pick up cooler air than at the top... however I'm sure th...

Ok. Well all my peripherals do have drivers for XP 64. It's not driver's I'm worried about, nor am I worried about finding a 64 bit version of everything I have now installed on 32 bit XP... it's merely if XP 64 will run faster and run these 32 bit programs faster... Because if it does, then I would...

XP 32-bit or 64-bit?
Ok everyone, I need some first-hand advice: I am upgrading from a Prescott 3.4GHz (550) to a new Core 2 Duo E6700. I have 4 GB of memory. Besides the memory, would there be a huge advantage to going to XP 64? I really want to try it out, but if it's nothing but problems, I don't want to mess with it...
