P182 and a "sandwich"

Many have said that you can't have both power and silence. Well, after spending considerable time lurking in SPCR I decided to build something that would challenge that view. Goal: -Maximum silence during idle while maintaining safe temperature -Maximum performance without excessive noise. -As littl...

I did, the drives got to hot to touch, also for some reason I cant monitor SMART features for temps so I don't want to mess with doing the drives down there again till I get my 120x20mm fan I just ordered. Mine stays within 28~35 depending on season, and that's with fan filters. Else I would have d...

I currently own a P182, I love it, though I have a love/hate relationship with the door, I love it that it hides the HDD light, I hate it when I have to use my DVD drives for any reason, but thats just an annoyance, what I really hate is I have a GTX280 and an nvidia 790i mobo, I have to have my ra...

There is a very fine line between plain and clean. IMO P182 falls into the clean category.

door isn;t a wall, sound coems right out that door. Sound will come out of any port, unless you put a foam block stuffing it, sound is coming out that way The hard surface still helps in reflecting some of that sound wave. with the addition of foam it also absorb some in the process. The only angle...

I don't see how it can reduce noise when the air is a straight shot out for the noise to come out as well.
Well, how would it be a straight shot if there is, well, a door in the way?

Can't say about Dempak since I never used it but the 3 layer Acustipack works very well. Especially on doors of P182. It easily shaves perceived noise by half from the front fan. Its thickness means it can compete with thicker pure foam competitors while fits into places where thicker foams can't go...

Apparently there is a fan at the front: http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=17431 But I can't see it. I think it looks great but it is a beast. I like the idea of positive pressure in theory, but I've never been able to make it work very well in practice... whatever the fan setup, temps always seem to be higher than in an equivalent negative pressure system. You also need a case design which enables you to remove, clean and replace the fil...

You mean the new 3 layers one right? I used quite a bit. I have the triples at the top extending all the way to the front which dampen the DVD drives nicely. Triple at the bottom and back. HX1000's fit fine with out removing the bottom fan.

Ok technically you do have to move it to the HDD side. After that just use 90 degree cables and you are all set.

Another thing to do is actually seal off the little gaps from PSU to HDD. This allows the fan to work more efficiently.

Looks like it's time for the old design to be taken out the back and shot.

Maybe it would have done better if they:

a) Licensed better bearings like CM did with S-FDB.
b) made it two heatpipes on both ends.

As it is it fail on sound, heat and looks.

The restrictive upper chamber means this cant really be used for gaming set ups. The large number of 3.5' at the bottom, if coupled with some 3*5's on the upper chamber might make this a good case for file servers though. With bay converters a total of 19 HDD can fit in that thing.
