In my limited experiences, SMART data is not readable when drives are in a RAID 0 array. I've used two different controllers and SMART data was not readable from the drives. So I don't think you can just change a setting and get it. It is also possible you can't do CHKDSK in RAID-0? Because honestl...

Overall with my experience with most WD drives. They're all pretty quiet in terms of seek noise and idle noise. Even my external isn't so bad. They don't vibrate as much either. In comparison to the 400GB Seagate I have exteral, that thing is a huge vacuum cleaner. Very nasty seek noise. But in the ...

Some RAID controllers will prevent you from reading the SMART data from the member disks when the drives are RAIDed. The curt answer to that issue is that if you want minimal pain, stay the hell away from low cost RAID setups, and way the hell away from RAID0. I wouldn't necessarly make anything of...

I thought about the Scythe Quiet Drive but as you said its not an external enclosure. Maybe ill go with it anyway if "real" external enclosures cant dampen the vibrations enough from the HDD. Your English is just fine. Thanks for the answer. You're probably best off using a Scythe Quiet Drive if yo...

RAID-0 Not Showing SMART Data

Recently I switched over to a RAID-0 with two notebook drives. Two WD160GB 2.5". About 2 weeks old now. After installing Windows XP SP2 everything seems to be working fine. But recently I've run into some problems but I can't tell if it's my drives or just a software problem with RAID. For one, I ca...

3.5" Housing for 2.5" HDDs

Does such a thing exist? Like I want to put my 2.5" HDD in a 3.5" rack. Just wondering if such a thing exists. I actually wanted to buy a solution where the 2.5HDD sits on a PCI card so that way it draws power from the motherboard. But the product called Upgradeware HD25-IS isn't sold in Canada for ...

I noticed that the package it comes with the 775 bracket is a lot better designed. Looks like it won't get in the way of any capacitors this time. If that's the case, maybe it's time to take out the Ninja in my comp and put this one in since I undervolt anyway.

In my experience with the Universal Retention kit, it doesn't play nicely with 775 boards and a Rev B Ninja Combo. Mainly because, once you change you 775 to 478 the bracket used to mount the ninja 478 styles, is even larger than the 775 bracket, thus making it even more troublesome to attach it. In...

That's a cool cage but won't that still make a lot of noise during seek? The rubber is a good idea, but they're still solid materials, and will leak vibrations to the cage which would rattle against the case. You might want to switch up the rubber with sort of soft foam, or you could insulate the ba...

Yeah, I would really get rid of that stock AMD cooler. Although I'd probably try and modify the 120mm exhaust a bit as well, so that it can just but put up with soft rubber fan mounts without touching the case, as well as make the hole bigger so you'd actually get some effect from having a 120mm in...
