They are the best. I have 2 of them, one with a 74GB Raptor and one with a 1TB Samsung. They stop disc noise but not vibration. You need to soft mount them as well. FYI my good deed for the day, I see there are some for sale S/H from Holland on this other forum thread : http://www.silentpcreview.com...

I'd second the 3480 idea, but to make it work well you should think about the following : 1. Get a Passive PSU - SPCR has one in it's reference system 2. Get an SSD for one of the drives, and a 2.5in HD for the other. Then you can put the SSD at the bottom and suspend the HD against the front (in a ...

Yes, I busted an Abit board trying to install a Minja. I scabbed through some of the connecting tracks with a screwdriver ! Then I noticed that I was supposed to unscrew the mobo mounting plate part way, do the install and then tighten the plate. A bit late now to know this as Abit is no more, BUT a...

If it's the plug on the cable between the PSU and the wall socket, then they have shipped you the wrong cable. For a PSU lead you will need a 3 pin plug, but if the supplier won't solve your problem, then a 3 pin version is easy to find in a DIY electrical shop. Some cables will only come with 2 of ...

My suggestion for a quiet big external drive is to buy an ethernet connected NAS box and put it in another room (e.g. attic). That way the noise is gone and, if you buy a RAID enabled version, the items you store are RAID secured (you need at least 2 drives for this) Most external drives are noisy a...

Here's the SPCR review of the Corsair modular PSUs. http://www.silentpcreview.com/article692-page2.html Look at the two pics, the appearance is the same for both PSUs. With the fan upwards the fixed power cords are on the same side of the 3480 as the side slot in the 3480. (so easier to work with) Y...

Yes, I have tried this. 1. Corsair 520 Modular is longer than the Antec PSU, but DOES fit OK. I recommend that you go for the modular version (if at all) as there isn't much room for ALL the PSU cables AND any cables for items that you might want to put in the top. Any leftover but attached Corsair ...

Re: 500-800RPM target: Scythe 120mm S-Flex SFF21D or SFF21E?
I'm thinking of running primarily in the 500-800rpm range. Am I better off getting the 800rpm SFF21D or the 1200rpm SFF21E? (i.e. which one has a better sound profile in that range?) I can only offer unhelpful advice ! 400rpm to 700rpm - get the 1200rpm version. 800rpm - get the 800rpm version. 700...

I have 2x P182s with Corsair 520HX PSUs. Plenty of room for the fan to access ventilation through the front panel, even though the fan points downwards. You might ensure that the extra back panel holes for the bottom chamber are covered up to ensure a through air path from the front. Many SPCR forum...

Good point. I'll have a look into suspending one of the drive in the dvd bays too. Is there any cases that are capable of holding 4 drives without causing any extra noise? Depends on the sort of hard drives. Difficult to get 3x 3.5in drives there, but not so difficult to get 3x 2.5in drives. What you would have to is to put 2x 2.5in drives vertically against the front facia and put the 3rd on the bottom. I currently have a 2.5in in a Scythe box (so 3.5in in size) agai...

Try using an Antec NSK 3480, with a Silverstone in the top half (cools itself through the top grills) and one fan in the bottom half. SPCR uses this combo in their new quiet room - look for MC's description. Depending on your "power computing" needs, you might be OK with a Pico instead. You need to ...

Thanks for the tips guys. I was considering the Zalman Fanmate 2, but it seems sort of inconvenient since I'd be leaving a small controller inside the case (and opening and closing up the case every time to change the speed is a bit of a hassle). However, all this is fearmongering. SSDs actually promise to be more reliable than magnetic media, because they should theoretically only fail in writing. Multiple Fans
If you want to have two (or more) settings for fans/heat removal, then why not get a multiple fan controller (e.g. Zalman ZM-MFC1). Then you can run 1 fan on a quiet setting for normal use and turn a second one on (or up) for gaming use. Easier to do this from a front control than with multiple Fanm...

Yes, it isn't quiet at 1200rpm, but try it at 600rpm - excellent. The other reason I like it is that it can run at very low voltages. Speedfan tells me that mine are now running at 410rpm (very lowest setting on the Zalman MFC1). I also have the 800rpm version and that stalls at anything below 600rp...
