FYI--To my knowledge, the PSU does not need to be in a case to be grounded. The third wire in the power cord is your ground, at least in the US. That's why it's advisable to turn the PSU off but leave the plug in when working on the computer. I've run a few systems completely without a case. the po...

edit: One thing i did notice is that when the fan is spinning putting your fingers on the suck side, without touching the blades, does not increase noise. But if i do it on the Papst it starts to sound like a propeller airplane!! Does this mean the Glacialtech can be used with a grille witho...

Well it s not exactly -40c here  More like -5, very dark, and heavy wind.. I have eperienced under -40c though, in northern Finland, and its pretty cold  ... and, further OT, -40 is the temp at which the idiotic Fahrenheit scale and Celsius coincide. Does anyone know if the above link rea...

perhaps you need to suspend the power transformer :D On a slightly more serious note, i have seen a monitor modded with fans, so perhaps if it were soundproofed and a little airflow pushed through with some quiet panaflos? Ither that or you open it up and work out which component is causing the buzz...

Only issue I had with this method is that I wanted to put a cool pack on top of the drive (not only under it) but I decided against covering that "do not cover hole" on the drive. To my knowledge, that hole is only to ensure the air pressure is equalised in the drive. I doubt it'd make much differe...

That truepower is going to be noisy at stock, and there's really no point buying really dfast ram then underclocking it - just go for some rated at the speeds you'll use it at. griff I think 533MHZ 240pin memory is probably a lot easier to find than 400MHz 240pin memory. As far as I know the FSB wi...

I use a contact cleaner from maplin, comes in a spray bottle and promises to leave no residue. Seems to clean my heatsinks very effectively and is only 2 or 3 pounds for a can. Is there a lot of space around the northbridge? Perhaps a low profile, wider cooler like an old CPU hs would fit? You'd onl...

alright, the reason I'm going fanless is cos i'm modding for silence, looks, low cost, and clockspeed. Not a very good balance i know, but so far the compromise is actually working quite well. As for the peltier, if i do use it i will be powering it with a separate power supply, most likely just a (...

Now you've removed the 92mm fan from your psu, you may want to try increasing the heatsink surface area, by gluing a couple of heatsinks on. I started a thread in psu cooling about this, a few of us have had good results from doing this. Secondly, perhaps you want to try a resistor instead of the 7V...

Just a thought - run a regular defrag and set your pagefile to a constant size (say, 1Gb) to reduce fragmentation. Is your hard drive on the same IDE bus as any other devices? Grab a copy of sisoft sandra and do some hard disc benchmarks, see if they're any slower than what you should be getting. gr...

The difference between 4x and 8x, at least up until the last generation of cards (9800/5900) series isn't very big at all. Secondly, you DEFINITELY need to clean the cpu and get new paste on there. Thirdly, i own the NF7, which is cheaper than the S and clocks very nicely. I also have a zalman north...

stealthgirl - good to see your project, nice to know i'm not the only one who's tried this. I'll see what happens when i re-attach them, hopefully i'll have enough sense to do some ...
