Beware of Marketing Claims

I'd beware of any noise claims made by the marketing for the PSU. They're rarely even close to accurate. On the other hand, if you're willing to do a fan mod that opens up the market quite a bit, as the only variable noise-wise will be the quality of the fan controller. If you end up going this rout...

Review addendum Re: Heatsink Mounting

After poking around some more on the Arctic Cooling website, I've noticed that they recommend that heatsinks with side-mounted fans be mounted so that they blow either up or towards the front of the case . Having the fan blow forwards makes sense considering the airflow layout of this case, but it i...

Recommended List

Dollar: First of all... Welcome to SPCR!!!! Second, no, that is not an oversight. The Silentium T2 does not belong on our recommended case list because, as mentioned in the review, the PSU fans are too noisy for use in a silenced system. I'm not going to give a value rating for two reasons. 1) I did...

486 in a freezer

Not to encourage you (the answers you've gotten are totally right), but some "testing" has been done using freezers. Check out http://totl.net/Eunuch/index.html to see what I mean.

Sorry for the slightly off-topic post.

PSU not moddable

Just to make it quite clear (if it's not in the review), the PSU is not changeable without at a good week's worth of work. The PSU is physically a part of the case; it's a non-standard size with non-standard mounting. In addition, the exhaust fans are connected inside the PSU itself ... not sure if ...

Airflow

Most likely you've rearranged the contents of your case a bit when you switched the power supply. This may have affected the airflow in your case. Things like IDE cables especially have a significant impact on the airflow pattern in your case, and can affect temperatures negatively if they block too...

On other other hand, maybe someone else closer to us would be willing to do this? I've got the hs and fan from a 2100XP (or possibly a 2000, can't remember) minus the screws that hold the fan onto the shroud. I'd imagine the postage would be pretty low. Good chance it's not the same as either of th...

Reason for thermistor position

MAN look at that thermistor! It's JAMMED in between two fins, and in fact BENDING one of them!!! You'd think they'd develop one that would fit in a nice spot, like more towards the center, and slimmer so that it wouldn't obstruct the heatsink. Might also produce better cooling results, no? All in a...

Bels vs. dBA

There is no direct correspondence between bels and decibels (although I can see where you got this idea; if they were consistent with the metric system of prefixes, you'd be right). The decibel scale is a measure of sound pressure at a specific location and must specify a distance from the source to...
