WOw I turned on my system this morning at 3.30am, and I honestly could not hear it standing in front of the PC which is under the desk on the floor. Off to the right front/side and 5 metres away I hear a very faint sound, quieter than a whisper. AFter 30 secs your ears just accept that as part of th...

BTW I managed to get an Evercool 120mm fan in my Sonata to run lower than 5 volts and now my system is damn silent from my sitting position :) At 900rpm it's both silent from where I sit and still moves enough air to keep my temps about the same at 5volts 1100rpm. The PSU may actually run cooler, si...

Well I went head and tried it and it works a treat!!! I set the Zalman fan controller to minimum, 5 volts, then plugged in the Fanmate in beteween the fan and the controller. Set it to minimum, the fan stalled. Then nudged it up a bit until the fan started, and then wound a tiny bit more on. This pu...

Sonata 120mm @5volts - want to go lower
Ok I have my Sonata 120mm Case fan at 5volts, its pretty quiet, but could be quiter still. It moves a ton of air as is at 5volts so I can drop some off for less noise. I already have it at 5volts with a Zalman controller. I have an unused FanMate from my Zalman 7000alcu If I were to insert a fan mat...

Blow vs Suck - my thoughts
Ok I was thinking Say your in an enclosed room, there is a heat source inside, so the room is hot. Which would cool you better, a fan blowing cool air from outside into you or a fan sucking cold air into the room? Common sense the first option would be the case. Plus there is less air restriction fo...

Sonata Power Supply Fan swap
Ok I swapped my Sonata's PSU unit's fan with a Panaflo M series 80mm fan (medium Speed) It is much much quieter!!! It probably never goes above 9volts. Anyway I had a look at the fan specs and it seems this is a safe mod to do. Factory fan is a Top Motor DF1208BA 2900 RPM fan speed 39.0 CFM air flow...

Success! I did the Panaflo fan swap for the Sonata's PSU. But I used a M series 80mm Panflo. I have a L series as well, but the airflow is bit too low for my tastes. You need to run it at 12Volts for good flow and I don't think the PSU will do that :) Anyway the 80mm Medium speed Pananflo is more th...

Sony PS2 = Noisey!
I was watching a DVD on it today and it strught me as damn noisey - especially so since it's on the desk, unlike my quiet PC which is even quieter when udner the desk.
It's thge fan at the back that is the offender.
Anyone mod one of these?
I think its a 60mm fan.

Minor finishing touch mod for the Antec Sonata side Panel :)
The side panel on the Sonata is a touch rattley and loose. Well I had some left over silicon material that surrounds the silicon washers I bought. So I cut some 4 small strips and put some glue on the back of each. Pasted one strip each on the crossbar (just before the handle), another on the metal ...

Tom Brown can you describe how you went about modding the Sonata PSU to take the Panaflo? I open it up yesterday and noticed it had a 2 pin fan connector, my Pananflo has 3 pins! And everything is cabled tied up. WHich isn't a hig deal, but it seems one has to cut the main large cable tie to remove ...

DrJones, You might want to take a look at the new X21 Trinity case from GMC, which has a door that hinges on the right side. From the pictures it looks like it uses 80mm fans, not 120mm, so if you are dead set on the larger fans you might want to look elsewhere. The X21 looks like a variation of th...

Zalman ZM-MFC1 fan controller in Sonata problem...
Hmm since the Zalman unit is so shallow, the Sonata plastic rails for mounting it into the 5 1/4 inch drive bars bend and the damn thing never sits and locks in properly!!
So How did you guys get around this problem?

I have a Sonata and the 120mm case fan even when run off the fan output has a low freq resonance. But when I replaced it with the 120mm Evercool run at 5v, wow the drop in noise is pretty dramatic. The only major nosie maker is the Antec PSU, but even that is very low in noise from where I sit, duri...

WOW ! I just ran the fan off the Molex to just listen to it at 12V and its very quiet as is! It has a very smooth woosshing air sound, but that's about it. Great fan! In contrast the 80mm Panalo M I have has a rather loud hum at 12v! even though it's rated at around the same Db..... If anyone wants ...

Pretty much agree with everything you said here. My only mod beyond yours (well, besides watercooling the whole damn thing), was to add a filtered screen to the Antec holes. Over time, you may notice that the 80mm fan on the PSU will be very dirty when compared to the 120mm exhaust. Those Antec hol...
