Re: Seasonic X-1050 and R4 case

I think there might be a higher incidence of whine from certain products, but it certainly varies. I have an ASUS DCII GTX 670 TOP, and it has no whine whatsoever, but my Sapphire 7970 in another computer has it pretty badly (although it's improving with time). I sort of think my culprit there is a ...

Thank you - that's very good to know for future reference. I no longer need a PSU for a while as I just got one from Seasonic, but I'll keep it in mind for my next system.

Re: What's with the Noctua fascination?

Not necessarily the best prices, but this company stocks lots of fans so comparisons are easy to make. ... Your prices are definitely a lot more different. Spectre Pros are not even in the same category of quietness to CFM (I own 2), and they are not so cheap here. For example $13 for basic version...

Re: Seasonic G series - 360W gold for $60

Connected my new G-360 and it's on! It's completely silent on my desk, very close to me. I have my other case fans very undervolted, and I cannot hear the PSU over them, even when I had my ear right next to it. Very happy right now :) It's powering an i7 3770 (undevolted and slightly overclocked) a...

I'm very glad that my unit has nothing of the chirping noise they report. My PC Power and Cooling Silencer MKII has a chirpy fan (2 of them did), but not this PSU!

Re: What's with the Noctua fascination?

FYI, here in the UK a Noctua 120mm Fan (slow spinning) NF-S12B ULN costs between £14-£18 depends on where you are shopping. A Slipstream 120mm fan (either the 500rpm or 800rpm models) can be bought between £5 and £8. There is a significant difference in price. Interesting. I can find a Noctua NF-S1...

Re: What's with the Noctua fascination?

$60 on a fan? You mean multiple fans, surely? For $60, you could get more than 3 Noctua fans, up to 4 if you go for 120mm case fans. I wouldn't call Noctua fans unreasonably expensive anymore. They are completely on par with lots of fans now, at least in the U.S. They can be had for less than 120mm ...

Confused about CFM in undervolting conditions

Most fans appear to require moderate undervolting to become very quiet, which reduces CFM. Some of the recommended fans I've seen (such as Nexus Basics) have low CFM to start with, so undervolted it's even lower. How would something like that do on a radiator? (A basic closed-loop system in a push o...

Re: request info PWM 120 fans

If you're looking for very quiet fans, Spectre Pros are not your choice. I have a 230mm and a 140mm versions, and they are audible even at low RPM, although they do seem to push a fair amount of air. Noiseblockers are probably your safest bet. I don't know anything about the Swiftech fans you listed.

Re: What's with the Noctua fascination?

I'm awaiting a 140mm Phanteks fan (currently $15 on NewEgg after rebate), which was reviewed here favorably vs. Noctua's 140mm offering. Will see how that goes. Real Silent fans have been on my radar too, although some review (can't remember which, I'll have to look) didn't label them as silent. Bas...

Re: What's with the Noctua fascination?

How much do noctua fans cost there? If they are as low as ~18 dollars, sure, but most places I see have them for around ~25 and sometimes on sale for ~21. Swapping out fans is hardly an endeavour, i'd rather buy 3 nexus fans and have to swap them out every few years and enjoy the smoother sound tha...

By contrast a system older still that operates 24/7 with Noctuas in it has the fans still running as new. That would be very interesting if both PC's had been on for the same amount of time - can you give an indication as to how much time per day (average) each PC has been on for over the last 4-ye...

Thermaltake Water2.0 Extreme - noisy pump?

Overall, based on a recent review by Hardware Secrets, it appears that the Silent mode is pretty quiet. What I'm wondering is how much hum/noise the pump will make? This appears to be the best closed-loop performer at the moment, and I'm wondering if I should make the switch or stick to my air coole...

I bought a Noiseblocker NB-eLoop 1900RPM version running @ 1250RPM. At that speed it is still noticeable, but much more pleasant than any other fan I heard before. There is no clicking, no grinding. just a low hum. It's the most pleasant fan I heard so far and one of the quietest. I will buy two 14...

Alright, just placed my order on the last day of NewEgg's sale. Re: Seasonic G series - 360W gold for $60

Thank you so much once again! Yeah, 300 Watts load is not something most of us would be using this PSU for, except maybe to do some benches. I don't anticipate my system to draw more than 200 Watts in games, so this is perfect! Going to get a SATA 15pin -> PCI-e 6pin adapter from Monoprice and order...

140mm case fans: Phanteks / Corsair Quiet / Noctua NF-P14

I've read lots and lots of reviews on these fans, but still can't decide which to choose for an exhaust fan. I've had a great experience with 120mm Noctua fans, but unfortunately my current build is centered around white/silver/black aesthetics, and as much as I care about quality, beige and brown w...

My G-series 360W sample is just as quiet as the one Mike is testing. If I couldn't use a Pico-PSU, the G360 would be my choice for a quiet PC build. Excellent - thank you! I gather that it's very quiet at low-power-draw performance, and would like to ask how it fares at moderate loads - say around ...
