Re: Lone Industries Mini-ITX prototype

I have to try to bridge the gap between those who like smaller vents, and those who like the larger vents for best airflow possible! :D Hahah, who in the world wants small vents!? Lemme at em! This is an ITX case for performance! It needs air! /steps off of soapbox I definitely do like the offset r...

Re: Lone Industries Mini-ITX prototype

@Mankey, For a single big cut out what do you prefer - a perfect circle, or a square with rounded corners (below)? :) Don't try to please everyone - but if cutting it in a square with rounded corners allows better airflow - my vote is for that. You're in a unique position of not only having a very ...

Re: Lone Industries Mini-ITX prototype

I'm still messing around with various vent styles and sizes. Most people seem to like the offset rectangle style vent. One of my brothers doesn't, but he's been the minority so far. I've been toying with the idea of doing a grid rectangle style (shown below). Offset looks much better to me. You cou...

Re: Lone Industries Mini-ITX prototype

Ah - thanks for clearing up the 4pin.

My research has also shown that 5000 series aluminum is good for anodizing! Getting excited now.

As far as the pressed fasteners - you could always install them after anodizing - then SS or aluminum doesn't matter.

Re: Lone Industries Mini-ITX prototype

You're right, the power supply input holes are just simple holes. I'll plan on adding another set of holes. I'm hoping to use a Mini-DIN style hole (one large, two small holes), with a spacer for 2.5mm DC jacks. Whats a Mini-DIN style hole? Mostly I just see the single hole for the panel mount 2.5m...

Re: Lone Industries Mini-ITX prototype

Vents - leave em be :) Unless you're planning another prototype to compare. Don't need to take a risk on the final run. Power supply input - If I'm right, the power supply input holes are simply holes - not threaded, countersunk, etc - So if you're doing this on a CNC, that would be a very simple op...

Re: Lone Industries Mini-ITX prototype

After giving the PicoPSU wires some love, the second fan is actually usable with a top mounted PicoPSU. 8) Not sure of the exact layout of the PicoPSU board, but it looks like with some basic soldering skills, you could move the plugs to the other side of the board. They look like simple surface mo...

@Mankey, Thank you for the information! It'll be very helpful. I could sell you an unfinished one. The only problem is that I'm using stainless steel pem nuts. The aluminum is 5052. Anyone have any thoughts on finish? Powder coat vs. anodized vs other? As for color, is it safe to assume black is the safest, or do people actually want other colors? Re: Antec Three Hundred Two - front fans obstructed?

Yah, it's a shame that they did that. Nice case otherwise. You can always go with a drive bay up top. This one will fit 4 drives in a 3 drive bay (who needs optical nowadays), and has a 120mm fan that is swappable. I use a pair of these in one of my cases, nice and quiet. http://www.amazon.com/KingW...

Re: Melamine foam tiles (East Bay Area)

Sound waves are funky - They tend to bounce, reflect, and wrap around surfaces and obstacles. If you're trying to block sound, you need to block off every crack/vent/etc between the computer and the listening position. Even then, you have to worry about sound reflecting out of the other openings the...

Re: Fractal Design Define XL Vibration

I've fought this exact same thing as you - It is an inevitable thing when you have multiple hard drives of similar RPM. It's referred to sometimes as "beating", and is occurs when the hard drive's RPMs vary slightly (they don't exactly have the same RPM), and serve to either amplify each others vibr...

Re: Corsair 550D - Best airflow setup?

I would go with option 3 with the exception of plugging the rear back fan or ducting it directly to the CPU heatsink. In my experience, having 2 fans 90 degrees from each other doesn't do much good and can create "dead zones" within the case. My second choice would be option 2 - very silverstone-esq...

Re: flexible SSD/HDD mounting options for up to three 5.25"

I'm using the cooler master 4 in 3 hdd bay. I tried the silverstone version, but it was too long and ran into my mobo power connector. Build quality isn't all that great, but it does have silicon grommet mounting points. If you're using a 5400rpm 3.5 inch drive for your backup, it'll be pretty darn ...

Alternatively there is a Manual mode which involves setting CPU temperature and fan duty cycle ranges manually. The default top settings are CPU temperature 70C and fan duty cycle 100%. The default bottom settings are CPU temp 20C and duty cycle 20%. The duty cycle stays at 20% until the CPU temp r...

Asus p8p67pro - BIOS fan control - What does it mean?

I just picked up a new Sandy Bridge and the Asus p8p67pro. The fan settings in the bios have the following labels: CPU Upper Temperature CPU Fan Max. Duty Cycle CPU Lower Temperature CPU Fan Min. Duty Cycle I am not 100% sure how these settings relate into real world scenarios. My best guess is: CPU...
