you are right of course. i was just to lazy to go down there (the shop angers me as everything is so expensive. especially the 'silent' fans they offer.

so to change my question: who is best to get 100ohm pots from?

cheers again

sorry, is that not standard notation? 100r, 10k 2k2 etc
yes 100 ohm used to speed control lia's. hence i guess they could do with being 1-2watt(or perhaps illl get away with less) and linear.
i just cant find anything that fits the bill, of not then i may have to try RS or others.

cheers Yomat, but surely that is just a manual speed controll for a psu that runs hotter and has a crappy fan (ie the pfc version). or is this model any better? surely its just the standard unit jazzed up with leds, or am i missing something.

cheers, i was under the impression that it was 'recommended' that all power supplies have the pfc rather than law. i have seen a lot of cheap units from many different places being sold with no obvious pfc (im thinking a bank of capacitors in addition to smoothing ones) and certainly no labelling to...

100r pots from maplin

just a quick (and no doubt dumb) question. i need to make an order from the hideously expensive maplins (www.maplin.co.uk). and get free postage if i make the order over £30, so i was going to add a couple of 100R linear pots that i can use for speed controll of an lia. ill be damned if i can find a...

Mr_Smartepants, if you are in Keflavik, Iceland (unless im really stupid, and i may be) thats in europe, where did you get a non pfc version? and how much was the shipping? as a reseller do you have a trade supplier? the long at the short of it is that i want to offer a range of silent pc's to the s...

FrankT have you pulled the fsb down to get that underclock? if so (i assume you cant change the Cpu multiplyer) how biger performance decrease does tha give over all? i wouldnt mind 'only' getting 1.8gig or so out of my 2.53 if it meant getting temps like that (perhaps i can run almost fanless). che...

Cheap 'advance' psu fan mod curiosity

i have just been given a really cheap 300w psu, i was going to put a panaflo in it and have it to play with/perhaps run my machine. i was going to move the thermister to a sensible place and use the temp controlled voltage for the panaflo. it turned out that the temp probe was right by the fan intak...

@cpemma wow another silent pcer from the same region, what are the chances. you make a fair point, at 5v some fans wont start so well, however the majority i have played with, will start, just with a little less grace than i would like. all of my panaflo lia's do start at 5v, just not witout a splut...

>>What i'm confused about is exactly how to switch the wires in the psu connectors You need to push in two little tabs on the interface side of the molex connector, best to do this with a little screwdriver, then the pin can be pulled using the wire. once you have pulled this out you can attach (sol...

fan grills *tend* to add noise, if you can d without them then i would. my guess is you'd be able to if you had a smaller fan, most except the 120mm ones, then you could get the grommits with the larger fan holding nick(meant for the thicker 120mm and the like). this may hold the grill as well. or t...

ducting a zalman flower

i am consudering ducting my flower HS to the case exhaust, however i am not certain about how to do it. obviously i want to build an airtight-ish device that goes between the exhaust and the HS but i am unsure of the details. is stiff card good and duct tape good enough to use? is there an ideal sha...

I think Piots correct, the 50/60Hz ac is upped to a much higher frequency as transformers can be made smaller and more efficient, thats why good music amps are so big and heavy as switch mode conversion would put too much noise into the circuitry and sound terrible. As ive said before though my anal...
