i guess it's a little off topic, but still pertains to the ~hd4850 performance in less watts. The motherboard is one supporting mobile intel core cpu's (yonah, merom on Aopen i975xa-ydg), together with 2.5 hdd's and a 220Watt dell brick. Currently I have a t2050 (1.6Ghz@2.4), but might try a t7400 (...

nodody likes nvidia's dishonesty, but in the end the deciding factor is how much graphics i can get out of a 220 Watts brick. I think it'd make sense to wait a month or so, then we'll see.
It's exciting how much power we get per watt :-)

http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3523 In the beginning there was the GeForce 8800 GT, and we were happy. Then, we then got a faster version: the 8800 GTS 512MB. It was more expensive, but we were still happy. And then it got complicated. The original 8800 GT, well, it became the 9800 GT...

My laptop has a pentium m 1.7 GHz, and at the lowest power setting it runs completely passive, at a tdp of 10 Watts - again without coun...

one of the major obstacles in building something like this yourself seems to be the heatpipes from the cpu and chipset to the case. does anything like this exist as an off the shelf produce, i.e. two heatsinks with long heat pipes in between that you can bend into place?
...any ideas?

windows xp: which software keeps accessing hard drive

When my laptop is sitting around idling, I can hear it accessing the hard drive, both hurting my battery and my ears. Idling here means doing nothing, but having the usual applications running (firefox, acrobat, notepad, word etc), but not having them perform any tasks. I eliminated the usual suspec...

true. But I have a tv and a projector. Using the projector every time the pc is on is not only impractical (i.e. during the day), but it also unnecessarily wastes light bulb hours.

how about using the s1 on the lower side card and that other heatsink that sits on top of the card (dont remember the name) on the top card. then they could be arbitrarily close to each other, becuase there's no heatsink in between them.

How much do the stock fans ramp up under load? If they stay almost silent and keep the card at 80-90C (like 3850?), then it's fine by me. Well, not me personally but most people. The S1 fit perfect on the 4850 lots of people have done that and dropped their temps by half :-) You can't drop Celsius/...

No, that is the voltage of the interface, not the GPU.
why would one want to change that .. oh, when overclocking the pci bus frequency?

will an external power brick damage my graphics card?

Hio, I have a pw200m power supply which can deliver only up to 200W. The system I have draws less than 100 without graphics card, but I am thinking about using a card that might use more than 100 Watts. I have a couple of 12v 120W bricks sitting around. So naturally it comes to mind to just wire the...

Then I'd try mounting a slowly rotating fan to circulate air into the card slots area. There are brackets for this and probably some ideas on how to make one yourself on this forum. I realise that those heatpipes might get in the way but perhaps the fan doesn't have to blow directly over the heatsi...

Ant6n..... it's probably because the "other ways" you speak of, usually don't work, and just show your enemies how weak you are. HD3850 HD4850 Spot the differences ;) That 4850 is quite a blurry card, me thinks  4850 for <100 Watts would be awsome; maybe I could run that together with my (mobile) core duo, and a 2.5" hdd on my 220 Watt brick (more than half the power consumption taken by the card :D). Regarding the tes...
