Wow 17W is super low. Amazing how low these chips go.

Only 3W diff could be anything. I see original review used a single SSD while you are using HDD (and BR drive idle ~0W). Still, that explains ~ 2-3 W gap.

Re: Graphics Card for 3D design

Not sure which of these apps really support cuda, but I'm quite sure if they benefit from it you don't want NVS cards. Adobe state that their current versions (CS5) support 64 bit and CUDA, as do Solid Works and Autocad, so it seems that there would be much to gain by using a graphics card that can...

Re: 690 II advanced feedback and some questions

Hi, It might not be a bad idea to post some pics. The Mugen fan should be mounted on the front of the cooler(next to the RAM) and not near the exhaust fan. Typically when setting Asus BIOS to silent this fan should spin at 250-450 RPM. It is my experience that some of the fan headers on the Asus mot...

+1 on both tips. Also if you go 2500K you'll want a P67 motherboard to be able to overclock it.

Re: Fractal XL, OC 2600K, Fan Recommendation

I tend to agree with the guys about lowering the OC a bit. Either that or accept your full load temps of 70+. Iv seen some sample variance in recent builds with 2600 and 2600K CPUs. Some idle at 29 others never get below 34. Load temps vary too and range from 65-73 on even mild 4.2-4.5 OC. That is ...

Re: Case madness, please help

I don't have any advice for a case. Seems like all the cases you mentioned can be made quiet with a couple of easy mods, and since you are already into modding and fan swapping I don't see any problem. Just pick the one that looks best and can be fitted with your suspension easy enough. (personally ...

Re: Picking a heatsink for i5-2500K @ 4.5GHz

I have recently finished a third build using 2600K and I can confirm this chip just doesn't get hot. On this third build I used Coolermaster hyper 212 plus. To my suprise idle temps are 29-30 load temps (4.3 ghz 1.28V) are in the low 60s. This is about the same performance I'm seeing using Termright...

Since you are using the optical digital out all data is converted to analog at the Belkin unit . Think you may have mispoken...Belkin is just the toslink cable. the onboard audio outputs to a Belkin PureAV TOSLINK (optical cable) in short - there is no benefit in a fancy sound card when using digital output. Flipping the mobo is a good idea. I likes the way they did it in FT2. But this case looks like it's still in beta testing. So many problems I lost count. Like cordis said a big bottom fan and vertical cd to start. And those white plastic mesh just kill the looks. With performance so poor there seems...

I don't think they do. I think the noctua typically has 2 adapters for low and ultra low speeds. It's probably the best choice out of the 3.

Re: Undertanding Intel's Turbo Boost Technology and Fan Spee

All 3 are capable of doing a good job. However, using their stock fans is not always the best choice. It might work great with the noctua, but I think you might want to swap the fan on the TR or Zalman if you get one of them. Most motherboard CPU fan headers use PWM to control the fan speed, so you'...

Re: Which Sandy Bridge motherboard and CPU?

I just want to point out that the OP was looking for value/money. The Seasonic X are great PSUs but they are defiantly enthusiast grade, often x2 the price of a similar non gold PSU.
There are benefits, but also an issue of diminishing returns.

i5 2400 - a lot more gain for a little extra $ Apart the 50% extra in cost, but I think it wouldn't be a well balanced combo: a value-for-money perspective is not a continuum, therefore IMO money shouldn't be stretched so much, otherwise we'll end up in a different value class (both those CPUs are ...
