The performance difference won't exceed some percent (at the best). But even if it did, you seem to forget that we are still in the storage domain, where performance doesn't matter. So either you have only ONE hard drive for ALL your data (which is a mistake IMHO) and in that case I agree, it'd bett...

My bet is that it won't. But I think you are not making the difference between performance and storage. For all your data that require very fast access times (a very little part of your data of course), go get a Raptor, a SSD, or something like that. For all the rest of your data we are in the stora...

Yes, and the difference with the processors example is that in Samsung's case, BOTH models (HD102UJ and HD103UJ) are announced and expected to be available at the same time. Why ? Because it's the SAME hard drive in fact, only with 16MB (102) or 32MB (103). BUT Samsung has decided to make the 32MB m...

There's no downside, it's all about the price. The HD102UJ will be about $20 cheaper. And since I need to buy 6 HDs, that makes $120 just for having 32MB which I don't need. Thank you Mr. Samsung !!

Unfortunately the HD102UJ is still not available @newegg. Samsung does this to force people to buy the 32MB version (HD103UJ) before introducing the 16MB version. And that's what I'm being forced to do right now, just because I can't wait any longer. I hate that kind of attitude from a manufa...

The HD103UJ is available at Newegg, but does someone know something about the HD102UJ ? (1TB, 16MB cache instead of 32, thus cheaper). Why isn't it available yet, and WHEN will it finally be available ? :( Being cheaper than the already cheap HD103UJ, I believe the HD102UJ will be a real killer in ...

Oh, I see. Thanks, the link is good. :D

Yes, I know that store (their name at last), but I've never ordered anything from them. It's a serious store, quite well-known here in France, but I believe it's a store mainly for PC tuning enthusiasts, which I'm not. ;-)

External fanless PSUs

Hi everybody, I'm sure pretty everyone knows the excellent mCubed's EF28 PSU : external brick + AC/DC adapter, totally silent, 200W (280 peak). Question : does anybody know of an even more powerful external fanless brick + AC/DC adapter ? Or are mCubed the only ones to make those kind of 280W+ PSUs ...

Several people have already asked for that review, and for a real comparison between the Sharkoon 1000/120 and the top contenders (Nexus, Noctua...) in real conditions (inside a case, not in open air). It seems that SPCR has some trouble getting samples from a Sharkoon representative. Let's hope Sha...

Thanks to the SPCR team for this new review. I'm still quite disappointed that you haven't been able to get your hands on a pair of Sharkoon SE1000 to test. I really hope you'll be able to test them soon. Here in Europe they've already been tested / compared, with the good results that you already k...

I was speaking of the SE1000, which can go down to 500rpm while still moving a lot more air than the Noctuas inside a PC case. ;-)

Like I've said before, why bother with Noctua products when Sharkoons " golf balls" are significantly better ? (same noise level BUT much better pressure, with about 10°C less inside the case)

(of course I've nothing to do with Sharkoon, they're just the best products I've found as of today)

Just as an example, I recently read another review , which included some medium speed (and even some high speed) fans. Airflow, actual cpu cooling, measured dbA levels and subjective noise/sound comments were listed for all. I found this an extremely useful review, because it showed fans like the S...

Thanks Mike for your great work, really. :) However, please note that the current list does not yet include the Sharkoon Silent Eagle 1000, that might well be the best silent fan out there as of today . Why ? Well, it's much better than a Noctua 1200 @ any voltage, it's as silent as a Noctua 800 @ 5...

It would be very useful if there were some kind of list of fans that would, in horizontal mounting, blow up or down well. In fact that would also be a great improvement to SPCR's testing : to tell if a given fan can be used horizontally, to blow up or to blow down. For instance, I still don't know i...

Devon, that's great news ! I also think that in-case testing would definitely improve SPCR's already great methodology, and that it could result in a new fan hierarchy. May I add that it would also be a good point if you added (for the top fans at least) some noise/vibration testing in horizontal po...

Thanks for all your answers. Sharkoon Silent Eagle,Yate Loon D12SL-12 are alternatives, no idea how the Sharkoon reacts to horizontal orientation, have had the Yate Loon in horizontal (blowing upwards) position in my S12-330 for 12 months, no problems. Has anyone tested a Sharkoon Silent Eagle 1000 ...
