Just to try to illustrate with a bit of Photoshop :
Normal blades ------------------------------------------ Reverse blades
Is that more clear ?

Well, what I'd prefer is to mount the fan correctly (with its head up) and have "the fan blades and the rotation go the other way", as you say. But for that, the fan would need to have "reverse blades" (forgive my bad english, I'm doing my best right now) in order to be able to rotate the other way....

Well, shall I get a rope and hang myself right now ? (thanks jaganath !) I wonder if fan manufacturers have ever thought about building silent fans specifically designed to push air UP when mounted horizontally. I say this because all the fans I've seen pictures of (including the GlobalWin) se...

I have read the french review, and I have noticed this important remark : Par contre, il faut impérativement éviter la position horizontale avec la tête en bas, le bruit du guidage augmente. On entend clairement que la rondelle arrière frotte sur l'extrémité du palier vu qu'il n'y a que ça qu...

Thanks Neil. No, I'm afraid don't know that fan. It wasn't included in your latest roundup, was it ? If SPCR has reviewed it, I'd be happy to have some more information. Otherwise, I think I'll take the risk and buy a Noctua anyway. I intend to use the fan at very low speeds (around 600 rpm), so eve...

BTW, juste one question about bearings : In the round-up we can read about Nexus' bearings : "sleeve bearings that are inappropriate for horizontal mounting or high heat situations". On the other hand, Noctua's bearings are SSO type, which doesn't seem to be listed on your "Anatomy of a silent fan" ...

 Well, at least people would know. Because not all the people seem to think that the 74-11 is so unremarkable as you have just said. Not all the people go dig into SPCR forums to find such information. So at least people would be informed. And I believe that's precisely SPCR's purpose, unless I...

We do have a number of their fans, courtesy of Vancouver retailer www.anitec.ca. Mike, that's great news, because it means that you'll be able to test them one day or another. Can you please tell us if among these models there's the "famous" 74-11 (120x120x25) and 76-11 (120x120x38) ? These two mod...

[EDIT : sorry MikeC, we have posted at the same time  ] I understand qviri's arguments, but I agree with jaganath @ 100%. SPCR is a serious site, with some valuable reputation. But if SPCR wants to maintain its reputation, there is only one way : to keep testing as much "silent" products as po...

Yes, I do perfectly realize. That was really bad. And I think that's one more reason to really test their products throughfully. I think every professional, including SPCR prople, must separate marketing from facts and people from products. If SilenX is just about marketing, then just review the pro...

Yes, and that's exactly what I'm trying to build up right now. I'm designing my own anodized aluminium case, that will look a bit like HFX Classic (lateral heatsinks, extensive use of heatpipes) with some improvements. And the HTPC inside will be 100% fanless (all right, it will have 2 fans, but onl...

so the only reason to get one is if you have a very small case which will not take a SFX supply I think the real reason to get one is (1) to be completely fanless/silent (the Seasonic is not : http://www.silentpcreview.com/article286-page4.html ), and most of all, (2) to get a fanless PSU that will...

Plenty you say ? How many fanless bricks do you know in the 200+ Watt permanent power range ? I only know one (the EF28), but I would be very happy if you gave me some other names. I've spent a lot of time searching for them, and I've only found the EF28 in that power range. BTW let's remember that ...

Yes, thank you wim. I remember that article. And I think the EF28 really deserves to be reviewed, and maybe even recommended by SPCR. I personally don't see another fanless PSU that even comes close to it, becase of its original "internal+external" design that limits heat inside the case. Fanless wi...

I agree with previous comments asking for a review of SilenX 120mm fans. I think they really deserve to be tested seriously , may it be for confirming their awesome marketing features that make them potentially the quietest fans in the world by far, of to tell everybody they're simply not worth the ...

Hi everybody, May I just ask if there is a reason why hasn't the mCubed EF28 been reviewed yet ? This PSU might be IMHO one of the very best fanless power supplies out there, plain and simple :D : - With 200W of permanent power (280W peak power) it can drive most HTPCs and even more, - With the AC/D...
