I too have the purpose of quietness as well as coolness. Case in point was, probably I missed out on hard drive cooling whilst tinkering with case setups - I can't know for sure, since my speedfan log went in the "fire". Did heat kill it? It's been used för three and a half years, maybe it's time h...

Did heat kill your hardware?
Silence is good and all that, but it does make your hardware run hotter. Have you killed your hardware with heat? Please post your stories. Also, which hardware is most sensitive to heat, i.e. when you push your HDD or PSU into 50-60 deg Celsius, what goes first? ------------------------ Recently my...

That sounds like a tight fit, MB+CPU usually builds 10 mm. This case seems not to have a MB tray, so no extra build for that.
Here's a reviewwith a low-build cooler.

Great idea, you're buffering the heat in betwen CPU load sessions. The downside with water is that things tend tp grow in it, so using distilled water and a hermetic cover would do the trick. If you want to calculate how much water is needed, here's a formula: 1 litre of water will hold 4,182 Ws/C T...

Removing the pci cover results in two things (if you don't have intake fans): 1. Case impedance is lowered, so more air is moved by the fan, OR you can lower the fan rpm for equal air flow as before. 2. Air paths will change, can be good or bad. Naturally, air past the video card etc will increase, ...

I think cards have height restraints to their components, that the VM-101 has taken into account, at least that's what I saw with my Zalman 80D-HP. Only conflict could be with the heatsink on the actual GPU die, that might interfere with die frame or other components, but from the pictures of the VM...

I'll have a go at the X1900 - HIS has gotten rave reviews for their custom heatsinks, the #3 revision even includes a heatpipe, similar to good CPU coolers. Whilst I don't own a HIS card, I would none the less suggest fitting an aftermarket cooler, since they have larger cooling area than any stock ...

Suggestions for noise control w/o on-board temp sensor
Hi, seems I made a stupid purchase, Palit X850 XT AGP - it has no on-board temp sensor (like all the other X850 boards have), so I'm left with a high and steady rpm fan cooling the card. Bummer, would have thought a high-end card like this would have this functionality. Anyways, I'm thinking of remo...

Thanx for the reply, good to hear both the 7800gs and the x800xl work fine. Yes, ATItool is standard for me, no option available there, not in Catalyst ocr Speedfan either. Hope they take it back, since this function is stated to be present on the ATI site. (Read somewhere you can read the temperatu...

AGP X850 XT - no fan control?
I have a PALIT AGP X850 XT, with a screaming fan. For the price I paid, I would have hoped for good fan control, but none is to be seen. I've read reports on other forums about temps and fan speeds on the X850 XT, is this function only there for the PCI-E version? Have you got an AGP X850 XT with wo...

1st, I bought an 120 AC fan, made some clicking noise, never made it into my case so far (using Everflow cheapo fans, very quiet). 2nd, the formula for noise at different rpms is: noise change=50 x log(ratio of rpm change) Example, go from 2000 rpm to 1000 rpm, ratio is 0.5, log (0.5) is 0.3, 50 x 0...

Not sure what the eq of 8500 is (old), but any sub $100 card would probably be able to cool fanless, either underclocked via ATItool, or with larger heatsink retrofitted, or even proper fanless solutions (Zalman,Vantec). There's also a plethora of fanless cards in that proce range. Lastly, Gigabyte ...

Actually that won't help much, since SpeedFan steps through those increments pretty quickly. The usual cure is to use only two speeds, much less annoying then constant ramping (unless you happen to find the spot where you just balance, which makes the fan go up and down pretty quickly). I've set my ...

Why is there more noise from the fan when the air path is obstructed? First, refer to Comairotron site , to understand the concept of operating point. When you obstruct the path, system impedance increases, and given the same rpm, the fan will give less air flow. This in turn, drives the fan along a...

On that note, your thrre point measurement is the standard way for gauging heat exchange efficiency, you get a percentage of how much of the total available temperature difference (...

Problem is, as Yangster is saying, the more duct surface you add, the more pressure drop you get. This is why you get better temps in a mid-tower than in an m-atx case. What happens if the duct is about the same length as the case, the positive effect on noise of cooling with cooler air, i.e. needin...

Since you're taking case air in both setups, the 120 fan pushing through the heatsink has less impedance (back pressure?) and will give suffivient cooling. You're right about the amount of air being large, thus getting heated less, I've measured 42 deg coming from a 58 deg HS. Ducting usually hamper...
