I've heard there is vibration noise from the very thin aluminum side panels. The front door may need a shimmy to close properly. The removable left side panel may need an "adjustment" to close properly. These are some things I've picked up from reading user comments and reviews. I use a Lian Li PC6...

2GHz VIA C3 on the cards

Hi, just found out about the proposed release of 2GHz via C3 (both Eden and Antuar) processors from tomshardware, it's all written up at: http://www.infoworld.com/article/04/01/06/HNviaprocessors_1.html It'll be nice to get a better performing, really quiet CPU :D , although if they still use socket...

Just to give my two cents - I can't notice much difference between using 'low latency' RAM compared to the more everyday stuff 99% of the time. I only use Corsair LLPT because it was going cheap (£100 inc VAT) in a sale a while back. Save you money or buy more RAM for the same price, just please get...

Good stuff, can't say I'm worried; couldn't you just put the radiator in another room? Did you dig a 10 foot hole? This maybe a silly question showing my complete ingnorance in water cooling  , but how do you get around the problem of condensation? Your dog is quite obviously one of those stra...

I get to use SGI's with SCSI HDs at work, I don't know the make but they're all on the loud side constantly - the external ones even have an extra winey 40mm fan to annoy you! Noise cancelling head phones have been employed, but it's nice to have an excuse to listen to music all day :)

Uneec Fur Fusion - small quiet athlon/P4

I've just found out about this shuttle clone called the Fur Fusion, it's made by uneec (?) http://www.uneec.com/en/ It's cooled by a single 92mm fan (CPU, PSU and all) so it might be possible to get a quiet athlon or P4 system. Kustompcs are already stocking them in the UK, it's a pitty they don't q...

Again thanks for the good info on the 1.2Ghz chip, I might just try and get me one of them and try using a copper flower cooler with it. silvervarg you quite rightly pointed out that my temperature readings must be wrong. I agree - my CPU motherboard always reads 15 degrees C after a good few days w...

Yep, I run the C3 800 without a fan, the server box it's in doesn't contain a single fan :)
The heatsink I use is an old aluminium coolermaster thing with the fan removed. CPU and system temperatures never go higher than room temperature.

Mustn't grumble

nehemiah faster than 1GHz?

I remeber many a year ago that via C3 cpu's were going to be made clocked faster than 1GHz, has anyone heard anything about this or is this just a creation of my twisted imagination? I'd love to be able to have a bit more speed on my 800MHz C3  server, but I'm wondering if moving up to a 1GHz ...

You probably won't need memory faster than PC3200, but if PC3500 (or 3700 etc), are not significantly more expencive you can run these at 3200 usually with more aggressive timings. Ok you'll only get a couple of % speed increase but if it's only a few pence it's worth a go. On the other hand the tim...

I'm also using a Zalman ZM400A-APF in a Lian-Li PC 60. I've been thinking about creating a duct to the internal inlets of the PSU to the outside of the case. Either from a the top fan vent or via an open drive bay at the front of the case. Does this seem like a reasonable idea? Another option is to ...

Case feet

Some other cheap alternatives :) for case feet are using a couple ofsquash balls cut in two (I've used these before to isolate a CD player from vibrations), or alternatively cutting up a camping roll matt and sitting you case on a couple of layers. The latter worked a treat for me for my gaming.
