I get to use SGI's with SCSI HDs at work, I don't know the make but they're all on the loud side constantly - the external ones even have an extra winey 40mm fan to annoy you! Noise cancelling head phones have been employed, but it's nice to have an excuse to listen to music all day

Yep, I run the C3 800 without a fan, the server box it's in doesn't contain a single fan
The heatsink I use is an old aluminium coolermaster thing with the fan removed. CPU and system temperatures never go higher than room temperature.

Some other cheap alternatives for case feet are using a couple ofsquash balls cut in two (I've used these before to isolate a CD player from vibrations), or alternatively cutting up a camping roll matt and sitting you case on a couple of layers. The latter worked a treat for me for my gaming.
