lor77: I have no intention of ever upgrading to VISTA, and if I'm ever forced to (because Vista's succesor isn't out yet, or XP is longer being suported) I'm sure there'll be plenty of large and cheap SSDs available so that capacity is no longer an issue. I have the cheapest Mtron available, it's th...

I had the same experience when I first got the 2.5" SQDs. Unfortunately I have a uATX case (Silverstone TJ08) and after I installed a souncard I no longer had enough space to suspend the drives, and was forced to hard mount them. Even though they're still very quiet, I can now hear the seeks, but on...

Have a look at this: http://www.endpcnoise.com/cgi-bin/e/std/sku=tnn_300_AM2_media.html They're using an AM2 motherboard in a TNN300. I remember reading they use some kind of bracket to make the TNN300's CPU mounting fit on AM2. Maybe if you contacted them they'd be able to tell you what kind of bra...

Dollar for dollar it's without a doubt the best upgrade you can make, imo. I had a cheap, thin, flimsy aluminium case and without changing any of the loud coolers I migrated my system into a Solo and the difference was huge. No more harddrive and fan related vibrations. Also, $45 for a Solo is ridic...

I'd also be much more interested in a single platter, standard 2.5" size drive. Cheaper, and more easily silenced using Scythe SQDs. The double platter drive just doesn't seem that appealing because its seeks are still clearly audible and it won't fit in a 3.5" enclosure. Still, I'm sure it's a huge...

The top fan is unnecessary, awkward, and the reason those hideous chevron-styled vents are on top. In addition, it also blocks the optical drive and isn't easily replaced by a quiter model. A horrible choice, imo. Thankfully this case should have ample airflow even with the 200mm fan removed, and th...

That looks interesting Vicotnik. I found one for a single drive, which is what I'm looking for: http://www.chieftec.com/ide.html
I just don't fully understand how it works. Can I turn the key and turn the drive on and off, or is the key only used to open the tray to switch drives?

Internal 3.5" enclosure with power button?
Does such a thing exist? I only use laptop drives in my computer, but would like the ability to back up to a large 3.5" drive occasionally. I would only turn the 3.5" drive on when I need to backup something, which would be rather infrequently. I don't want the drive on continuously, and I'd prefer ...

There aren't any. The HD3450 can do audio and video over HDMI with a DVI -> HDMI converter. I've seen HD3450's with HDMI and VGA, but not with DVI and HDMI. Even if a HD3450 existed with both a HDMI and DVI port, you wouldn't be able to use the HDMI port since the maximum resolution you can squeeze ...

The GA-MA69GM-S2H seems like a fine choice. Your second option is a 690V motherboard, which won't be suitable. It has no DVI out. If you can avoid using VGA, I think you should. A VGA -> DVI adapter doesn't exist because that means converting an analog signal to digital. It will simply pass the anal...

The problem with 780G right now, is that even though the motherboards have been available in China for a while now, they're not technically allowed to be sold outside of Asia because ATI/AMD doesn't have the Hybrid Crossfire drivers ready. Now, I'm not sure if this means the surroundview feature of ...

Ehh.. forget Matrox for anything 3D. I don't know how graphically demanding these visualisations are, but I'd venture a guess and say the Matrox P690 won't be able to deal with it very well at all. Not to mention how overpriced that card is... I don't understand why it needs to be low power, when he...

Maybe mine had defective bearings. Either way it wasn't really an issue as I never planned on using it (replaced it immediately with a Nexus fan). It was only when I was messing around with an old PC that I tried the amber fan, and I could not believe it was possible for a 120mm fan to make that muc...
