zuperdee, The main drawback I find with the KT400 isn't so much the lack of support for dual channel or 400 MHZ FSB, it's the lack of a PCI lock. I don't know if the later VIA chipsets have a PCI lock but I am considering switching to a Abit NF7-S mainly for this reason. Anyway, I'm not sure why you...

What ASUS motherboard are you using, out of curiosity? Zuperdee, unregistered, the ASUS A7V8X, something they no longer sell as it uses the unpopular KT400 chipset. "C:\Program Files\Folding@Home\winFAH.exe" -advmethods -forcesse unregistered this won't work for me as I use the FAH screensaver whic...

David, try adding -advmethods to the shortcut I Haven't gotten into folding so much so I am using the screen saver version, don't think I can use switches on that? Part of the consistency might be having the PC running 24/7, this may change as the summer comes along as my PSU is too much of a heat f...

Making the Raptor shut up
Sizzle, I can back Ralf up on this one, since I put my two Raptors into a suspension cage I can no longer hear either "Raptor whine" or "super seek" noise. The method I used is based on making a cage and suspending the drives in soft elastic and is described in this thread . The drives are in the ai...

Actually I meant overall system temperatures, cpu and psu included. My ACVS produced nil change in CPU temp on the low setting but the other night's trial produced a 3 celcius drop on high. I guess that the amount of air pulled out of the case by the ACVS is too small to affect the CPU on the low f...

Artic Cooling VGA Silencer and System Temps
Idealcrash, The previous cooler was the stock ATI/Sapphire effort. To test the ACVS as radiator/dead zone theories I have tried running it for a couple of hours with the fan on high. My thinking was that if there is radiant heat affecting the South bridge increased fan speed would make the situation...

Artic Cooling VGA Silencer and System Temps
I Have a rev. 2 cooler on a Sapphire 9800 PRO. Naively I had expected my system temps to drop after it was installed. However the System temperature now measured by ASUS PC Probe is now around 4 degrees Celcius higher, 31-32 vs. 27-28 previously [EDIT] with the stock ATI cooler [/EDIT]. My suspicion...

SilenX and Acoustifans in Toronto
Bigfoot now carries SilenX Power Supplies and Fans. From their website Signa Computers in Scarbourgh look like they carry 80 and 120mm Acoustifans. On a word of caution I have had a bad experience with Signa and an RMA for a motherboard.

Have just suspended my 2 whiny early version 36Gb Raptors as per the article Step-by-Step: How to Quiet those Hard Drives at Overclockers.com. My first impression is that the "super" seek noise has disappeared but I may still be getting a little "Raptor Whine". I can't really subjectively say about ...

New(?) "Quiet" PSU-My fan is bigger than your fan!
There is a new review at Overclockers of a Super Flower/TTGI PSU with a 14cm fan. Maybe a good candidate for a quiet PC or review? Does anyone have any experience with these?

You could remove or disable and then tape up the 92mm hole on your psu. Then reverse the Enermax blowhole fan from an exhaust to an intake fan running at 5-6v. My delicate artistic sensiblities (ha ha) preclude blocking up the PSU hole with tape so I am mulling a number of options 1. Using a PSU co...

Interesting discussion guys, Mike wrote, The main advantage of 2 fans in push/pull is that the total pressure is higher, and so can lead to higher airflow than a single fan when there is impedance in the airflow path. However with my TP 550 I find that the stock 92mm fan overwhelms the stock 80mm an...

7000A-ALCU vs. SLK-800U
Hi Harry, A good place I have used in Toronto is Bigfoot Computers . They are in the West end and carry the AlCu listed at C$54.98. Don't go in there with a full wallet and plenty of time to browse though;-). A question I have for you and any other Asus MB owners is, does your stock Northbridge sink...

120mm Fans
I use one of the enermax 120s and it performs fairly well. If you are using it with a rheobus you can cut the fiddly rheostat it comes with off and twist the bared wires together to get an extra 100 rpm at 12V, if you need it.

120mm Panaflo Noise Level
Have a 120mm panaflo L1A in my system and found it to be the loudest component recently at 12v. Am now running it off the "fan only" lines on the Antec PSU with hardly any temp increase and greatly reduced noise. Papst is quieter but way less powerful (subjectively) but the enermax seems to be a bet...

Enermax 120 Fan
I found the Enermax 120 could not make rated 2300 rpm in free air, so I tried cuting off the screw adjusted resistor, striping the wire and twisting it together. Doing this got me the 2300 rpm. Found the fan to be almost as quiet as my 120mm pabst (at lower revs) while seeming to push more air (subj...
